A Father's Day freebie - my first vector!

Yeah, I'm definitely not getting THAT much glow.

But you know, I never double checked the bulb after plugging it in to see that the starter was firing it all the way. I'll pull it out tonight when I get home to make sure the bulb is lighting all the way. Perhaps I have a bad starter, or transformer.

I do know that I should probably take a camp cloth to my artwork as well. There's lots of dust on it. That should help even more.

Will report back with results. Thanks for the photo, Shawn.
No problem. Yeah cleaning it helps, but go easy, you don't want to wreck the artwork. I wonder if evenly coating an old worn out backdrop in invisible, glow in the dark paint would bring back the shine.

Went back and double checked the bulb, she's burning bright. Looks good.

I still wasn't happy with the reflection, so I pulled the mirror and cleaned some SERIOUS dust and grime off it. Made a huge difference.

But my screen is still too bright. Adjusting the brightness pot only makes the vectors brighter or dimmer, not the screen glow.

The contrast pot seems to adjust the intensity of the vecctors, but that doesn't help either.

How do I get the glow of my monitor to turn down? Is there an adjustment inside the high voltage area?

Update to this - apparently my monitor surround was missing the blue gel screen to filter out screen glow. I finally got around to replacing that yesterday, and my image looks much better now. I still have some adjustment to do to remove the last of the tube glow, but I should be able to dial it in properly.

Pics coming later.

I had a dodgy contrast pot once and had similar symptoms as you on an asteroids game (Too bright and not much change when turned)

I was so rapt after i replaced the pot, to have excellent control again

Thanks for that, I'll check the pot.

Also, for those who are interested, I bought my replacement film here:

Wizzes workshop. I'm pretty sure I was sold a sheet of UV theater lighting film that I probably could have sourced from a theater lighting company for less than half what I paid ($20), but in the end it was a quick solution for me, since he had already done the color matching and the item was cut to size & shipped to my door.

Props to Tom - my AD looks much better now.

Update to this thead - my cab wouldn't fire up for me last weekend. Looks like I'll be rebuilding the ARII board this weekend....
