Well I should have known better because I really don't have any room but I gave in and picked up another one. A local collector had a non-working Midway Blue Shark up for sale. I had not seen one before but it looked like it would be a cool game to have so I picked it up for $100.
I got it home plugged it in and it appeared to be dead, there was no video on the monitor or sound from the speakers and the blacklight wasn't working.
The quick Summary of what I did to get it working
• Plugged it into a known good monitor and saw that the game was playing fine.
• No sound was caused by a bad 1n4004 on the power board. I now had all the sounds but the one for the octopus
• Replacing the LM3900 at J5 fixed the octopus sound
• Replaced the bad ballast and installed a new white blacklight bulb
• No HV or heater on the m5000 monitor. R43 was open and the 73v was not reaching the flyback.
Now it's running well and I just have to clean it up a little. A welcome addition to my arcade.
