So, I finally got around to finishing out my latest Battlezone - cleaning the mirror and monitor, replacing lights, rebuilding the sticks, etc. - and had to replace a missing overlay.

Now the normal overlays are red and green. The green (which I have) can be seen below:

Well, while I was looking for the green, I found a blue one that was leftover from an Asteroids Deluxe project. I stuck it on there to see what it would look like:

Hmm....I like it! I find it much easier on the eyes. I know the green was supposed to simulate "night vision" as would be seen through the "scope", but I think the blue fits in with the colors on the machine better. Besides, the marquee even shows a blue ground.

What do y'all think? Green (original) or blue?

Put the green on top of the blue, I want to see what color that comes out as.

While I'm more partial to the original, the blue probably would be easier on the eyes.

I tried that. If green is on top, it look darker green. If blue is on top, it looks darker blue....

The purists will tell you to stay green but I think blue looks better.

I do, too. Besides, even with one leaving tomorrow via trade, I still have two, so I can have one green and one blue. Hmmm....Might have to start lining them up and do them in the rainbow colors. Might come in handy if Phet or AG ever come to visit....

Well, to me it's not Battlezone if it's not green.

And I've never had a problem with my eyes looking at it.

Yes, for a long time it was touted that green text on a black background was prefered viewing on early computers for as long as I could remember. Although I recall one monitor manufacturer going against this and touting light orange text instead.

It all boils down to contrast and refresh rate for me so meh. Whatever you find most comfortable is probably best. Any eye docs out there with opinions?

Ah... I think the green shows up real well... perhaps the white blacklight in there (seems to be out or low in your pics) might help the blue look ok, though.

Gotta love monochrome GREEN and monochrome AMBER monitors...

the White BL is there and working fine, I just left the flash off on my crappy camera and didn't get close enough to get the effect to show properly....

And for those others - I have the green and will install it if I ever part with it.....
