Are there instructions on how to install the 96-in-1 Multi-Pac kit? Can someone shoot them my direction if possible?

Hey guys... I have a Pac Plus going and the docs only mention Ms. Pac and Pac... not Pac Plus. Should I consider a Pac Plus a "Pac" or a "Ms. Pac" when installing this kit?

Not familiar with a PacPlus but if it runs on a Pac board with an add on extra board like a Ms Pac I would treat it just like that.

Shoot me an email at: [email protected] and I'll send you the full copies of the manual.

Pac Plus is the same board as Pac and Ms Pac, the only difference is going to be the color PROMs at 4A and 7F since Pac Plus uses unique code.

Follow the regular instructions for a Ms Pac board and swap out those two color PROMs.

Email sent. Thank you.

Maybe I am over analyzing this but according to the Ms. Pac instructions, there should be a daughterboard that this Pac Plus doesn't seem to have... I think you mean I should follow the PAC instructions except for those two color PROM's...which I then want to follow the Ms. Pac instructions, right?

The two proms are just going to make some of the sprite colors a little different. You would need to get replacements for those if you care about the off colors. Otherwise follow the pac-man instructions. I think the ms. pac instructions just tell you to take the ribbon cable from the daughter card to use for the kit daughter card.

Alright... I finally am getting around to installing this kit on the Pac Plus and I've come to a couple issues.

(A) Where do I get the proper color proms that I need to replace?

and the more important issue...

(B) Step 2 has me removing the Z80 from the mainboard to put on the kit... the problem is, there is no Z80 on the mainboard... If there is, I can't find it. There is a ribbon going from the main board to a black epoxy covered "brick" ...and if my assumptions are correct, the Z80 is in there? Or is it stuck under the satellite board on the other side of the mainboard?

If it is in the "brick"...how do I get to it and/or where in the heck do I get one?

Ms. Pac you had to pull the Z80 off the board and put it on the daughter board. I suspect Pac-plus was the same deal, but they did that anti-pirating block on the daughter card. You have a spare pac/mspac board you can grab the z80 off of?

I do not...

So it looks like I am in need of a Z80 + the two color proms needed to convert back to a pac from a Pac Plus.

SHIT. If I knew I needed the freakin' Z80 last week I'd have gotten one by now. Oh well.

Anyone have a space Z80 + the two color proms needed to convert a Pac Plus back to a Pac? PM me... Thanks!

Unless you can plug that whole pac-plus board into the Z80 socket. I'm not sure I would try it unless someone else says that is what your supposed to do. I did check the conversion documentation from pac to pac plus and it says to pull the Z80 and return it to your stock as a spare part.

Yeah...I don't think I am going to try to plug the pac plus daughterboard in to the multipac daughterboard.

I'll just have to source the parts.

Reverse the Pac Plus kit conversion install effectively turning it back to a Pacman Board, then install Clay's kit.

Unfortunately that means you need a Z80 processor, 6 eproms, and 2 proms

I forgot about your lack of a usable z-80 in the pac-plus. Sorry about that but Frizz, a Z-80 is a standard item an arcade enthusiast should always have in their back pocket. I mean come on! :D I would have tossed one in if I had known. I could mail you one if you didn't order it already and you can just have someone burn the color proms for you later. With different color proms the prizes are different colors and I think ms. pac bow is different color, the monsters flash pink and white or something. Kind of weird.

I think Hobbyroms.com has a good price on the color PROMs (4a and 7f) and the Z80 is common enough.

Sucks that the Pac Plus has that version encapsulated.

I would suggest pm'ing Riptor. Explain the situation and he could probably hook you up with everything you need.
