Lets see... this is how my 9/11 went...

At about 8:45AM we get a call from my wifes dad... it seems his wife (my wifes step-mom) had a stroke. A pretty bad one it seems. We still don't know if she's going to make it or how bad off she will be if she does.

At about 5PM I turn on my Battlezone to play a game or two to find the LED not blinking... and nothing coming up on screen. Looking through the coin door I see 2 red LEDS lit on the PCB and the monitor has glow (I do think the spot killer was on too but I am not sure). >ARGH!<

At about 8PM I sit down to watch a movie with the wifely unit only to have our 62" Toshiba DLP make a funny POP sound and then go dark. My guess... the damn bulb died. Hard to bitch being the bulb is over 4 years old but still, all on one day?

An OEM bulb cost me $135.00... and won't be here until Thursday or Friday.

>ARGH!<

It went bad after only 4 years? That's pretty crappy. My rear projection crt still looks great after 6. Sorry to hear about your step-mother in law. My grandpa has had 2 substantial strokes, and they are no joking matter.

yea hope shes o.k. at least you can fix everything else.i had a bulb go out after 2 years, but sounds like you had a crappy day.

DLP bulbs are rated for about 2000 hours. Rear projection CRT is a whole different animal.

i can one up you on the TV.. Yesterday, my 3 year old daughter threw a toy cell phone and broke the screen on my 42" Lcd wall mount tv. i think i still owe about 700 of the 1200 i paid for it.

Yeah... DLP's bulbs have an "average" life of 2 years it seems. I guess 4 isn't that bad. Damn bulbs are expensive. That said, this models bulb USED to be $449 list.

Makes me glad I didn't get a dlp... I bought my TV in the hopes that I could use light guns on it (my old 50" rpcrttv could do it). Unfortunately, I found out that I can't use them (no more duck hunt V_V). Mine is a 65" hitachi, which was their last model of crt's, I believe. I could have bought a comparable dlp for not much more, but I was hoping for the light gun functionality. Now, I'm glad I didn't. Screw that 2 year lifespan B.S.

I work at a place that sells parts like that. They can easily run $200 or more.

Lucky you!! I have an RCA that has been sitting for 6 months because the parts are discontinued warranting a $300 price tag,the tv cost $400 new!!!

I found a great source for OEM parts. What is your model number...I'll go check to see what the cost is for ya.

I don't know the part number off the top of my head but I searched to the end of the web and the only one I found was on Ebay. Since he was the only person on the web that sells them he jacked the prices up from $100 to $300 over the course of 1 year because RCA discontinued it. It's a colorwheel.

Not to be on topic, but my condolances to you and your family regarding your mother-in-law. Strokes are an unfortunate reality of getting older. Everything else can get fixed, but health issues can be a bitch. They have made great strides in treating stroke victems, but only if they can get to them and correctly diagnose it in time. Good luck and our prayers are with you and your family.

Check MCM or Electronix.com. I just repaired a DLP projector last Friday and have 2 more to do.
