8liners chassis review

I was thinking of going this route with my Sega Nano monitor the tube is basically brand new but the chassis I have don't work. I'm not about to spend the money to buy another nonworking Nano chassis.

Is it a 19" Nanao? The only thing I've ever seen go wrong with them is caps. Nanao is about 8 million times better then these 8-liner chassis IMO. :)

Came from a Buck Rodgers cabinet it measures about 20" diagonally. From what I have heard from a lot of people is that the Nanao was total trash to begin with.

There are some Nanao monitors that are dual (selectable via a jumper) resolution CGA/EGA.

Aside from a couple of replacement chassis made by Rodotron, no other replacement chassis will do dual resolution or even EGA res. They only do standard (CGA) resolution.

Well the nanao monitor I have is a Mc-2030-S Mitsubishi Tube 510WUB22S so can I use the 8liner replacement chassis? Or do you need more information on it?

Whats it doing? Powering up but no picture? Neck glow but no picture? I'd fix the factory chassis before I dropped in a replacement.

To the best of my knowledge, 8liners no longer distributes the Jen Shinn and I believe no one else is distributing it in the USA or Canada.

Perhaps someone on the west coast should start distributing the Jen Shinn chassis. Whoever does this should ask for manuals and schematics to it. Naturally, I'm sure that a person who decides to distribute it would have to commit to buying an ocean cargo container full of these chassis and/or complete monitors.

Ken,
I've got schems (barely readable) for the JS somewhere. I'll send them your way.

It does nothing no neck glow chassis doesn't even power up. I tested it with the BR wire harness I have it's getting the 100V it needs.

Is the game a keeper? If not, install the 8liner chassis since its an easy fix. If it is a keeper your going to be better off fixing the Nanao.

And you've already recapped it? Zanen capkit # 603 works with this model except you don't install C412 and resistor R422.

I have written a copyrighted repair guide to this model.

If you want to use a replacement chassis, there are these two that will work:

Wei-ya 2820H. Has a built-in switching power supply so it can run on 100 volts and it does NOT need an isolation transformer. This is the prefered chassis to replace the MC-2030-S if you need to operate on 100 volts.

Wei-ya 820H. Requires an isolation transformer and must use 120 volts.

And FWIW - I have contacted Jen-Shin about possbile minimum orders needed.

What did you end up finding out, Deadly? I've got a Jen-Shinn in my 4-player TMNT that's been running fantastic for the last 5 years or so. They definitely do the job well in my book. Another nice thing that I personally like, it that they have an actual horizontal width pot versus just a width coil, along with brightness AND contrast pots. Makes for very easy adjustments - just like the Vision Pros.

i ended up with a bunch of old tv's that the tubes were the small 8 pin neck on trying to do a tube swap. The solution ended up being getting a couple of frames from Bob, and buying the 8-liner's chassis's.
I've got 2 of them, and they're both well over a year old and going strong running on nice super dark tv tubes. I don't run them alot, and i'm sure they won't last forever, but, i ended up with about a hundred bucks (shipped) in each of them.
The picture's as good or better than any of the 4600, 4900, g07 or ez20's i have. I did finally find one tv with the right tube - and it'll eventually be replacing my burnt to crap upper tube in PO (i hope), or the burned up 4900 in my Kung fu master multi. For me it wasn't that i couldn't fix the orginal chassis, it was that i couldn't find the right tube to swap.

You can buy frames from bob? Can you link me to it?

gotta throw in my experience with these guys. monitor arrived with broken yoke, packaged shittily. eventually got a refund but it was a royal pain in the ass to get in contact with the guy and get it done. beware and good luck.

"NEW" Tube Replacement from 8liners

Just received my "NEW" tube from 8liners. Had to mail them my chassis so they could make sure it would work with their tube ~$13.00. $100 for S&H + $60.00 for "New" tube. Had to drive 4 hours (one way) to nearest shipping depo. After picking up my package, I found inside a 1995 Zenith 25" TV (plastic case smashed to heck) with only the tube and my original chassis bubble wrapped inside. To protect my tube, smaller boxes were just thrown in (NO SCREEN PROTECTION!!). The tube was not "new" and had multiple scratches on the front. No response from 8liners after my disappointing email reply.

What model of JS would be compatable with a G07? JS 220L and JS220LLC? JS920? What is 'line control'?
Might be able to get a box of 15, or a 'carton'...

There are two models that match the Electrohome monitor yoke impedances (high impedance):

JS220 (has all the adjustable controls on the main monitor board)

JS220LC (note one "L") (has the most often needed adjustable controls on a remote adjustment board)

What they call "Line Control" is a their translation of "remote adjustment board".

The JS220 series does not need isolation.

Be sure to tell them the Electrohome 19" monitor has a 29 mm diameter neck (a.k.a. "10 pin" ) so you get the correct neckboard with "Socket 1".

These chassis will need to be "Americanized" to make installation quick and easy:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=97584.0

This involves replacing the power connector and the video/sync connector for the North American market. Once the chassis has the correct connectors then most test equipment (like monitor pattern generators) will work with it.

Probably the JS220 would be the cheapest. Personally, I prefer monitors with the remote adjustment board so perhaps you should order all of the JS220LC in your order. Be sure to demand schematics and service manuals/parts lists with the chassis order.

Anyone? I got an email back from JS and will see what minimum orders are for a possible group buy, but need to know which would be compatable..
Good luck with that avenue. I was talking to JS about trying to become a US distributor. Their prices were ridiculously high. There comes a point that your time is worth more than a couple bucks and that's all they left room for. And their communication is at best broken engrish.
Also I'd like to add their technical support was a raging joke. I've heard such wonderful things about these chassis .... pretty sad that they can't properly support their own product.

Speaking of - what ever happened to that one gent that said he was getting a bunch of JS chassis? Ken - do you remember the guy?

And as far as the previous posts about 8liners being a joke - sorry about your luck. User Frizzlefried had also a piss poor experience. Tubes that were scratched. All Victor Genao is doing is exactly what we're doing. Robbing TV tubes and adding a chassis.
