8 pin chip on arcade shop centipede to jamma adaptor

Does anyone know what chip the 8 pin chip is on the arcadeshop centipede to jamma adaptor? My sound is all crappy now and the chip is burning hot. (I know its the adapter as I have 2 adapters and the other one works fine and is not super hot).

sadly I can see writing on it if I hold it at the right angle but cannot read the writing on either one. It's the only chip on there besides a clearly marked LMxxxx but it's the small 8 pin chip that I cannot read that I believe is bad.

-thanks in advance.

but yeah I might email him if nobody knows. I was hoping someone would know offhand.

Its probably an LM356, but you should verify based on the PBC connections against the datasheet.

Just a small amp.

OK it seems to be a 7660 voltage converter.
Oddly enough it was labeled in silkscreen underneath the chip ;)

That's kinda wacky. It's for generating a negative supply. But JAMMA already has -5V, so I'm not sure why it would be generating it...
