8-Liners (Wei-Ya) 19" Monitors Available

Looks good! So, would you rate it a good buy, minus the packing?

Considering the alternative is about $225 + shipping... it's a good deal. The phone number being disconnected makes me nervous, but I bet it's back online next week. If so, I may buy another just to have around. And actually, the packing wasn't terrible, just not great. The fact it's double boxed is nice, but inserts in the inside box would have likely saved the tray from breaking.

It seems like a good alternative for now. I did purchase a triSync monitor from AS, no issues with the monitor at all. I decided to go that route just to CMA in case I need it for something....

Looks like your review is good enough for me. Great job getting it done.

BTW - post the wiring to the jamma harness and AC for reference, if you have time.

Easy as pie... the inputs are labeled R-G-B then there is a symbol for GROUND...a space...then SYNC.

The power wiring is BROWN = Hot, BLUE = Neutral, GREEN/YELLOW = Ground.

I paid $10 more for the NON-ISO version...wasn't sure what box it would go in. You could actually pick the same monitor up but with a chassis that requires an ISO, for $150 shipped...

that looks like the same chassis that i've bought from them to use with tv tubes, and i tell ya, once you adjust them out, they have a fantastic picture. Could have something to do with the tubes i used, but they look as good or better than any 4600, 4900, or G07 or 20EZ for that matter i have. I don't use them heavily, and i'm sure they probably won't last as well as the aforementioned have, but for the bucks, they're hard to beat.

Only time will tell if that's true or not and lets be honest while we're at it. We have the Cinelabs flybacks that people are now using and have had GREAT success using them. Where did all the original parts get made? The point I'm making is all this cheap shit is made over seas (unless they have a US division) but it's all cheap crap (with HUGE markup) any way you slice it ;)
I see 8liners being no different.

Waiting for Daviea to chime in (Mr repro himself) ;)

I don't disagree with you. The way i looked at it was this - i payed 15.00 for a frame from Bob Roberts, 20 for a tv from goodwill, and i think 85.00 for the chassis shipped from 8-liners, so that was 120 in what was for all intents and purposes a new monitor. I have 2 of them, and they both look fantastic. I don't leave my games on for more than 4 or 5 hours at a time (and rarely that long), so i think they'll last me a long time. I used the tv tubes yoke's, so there was no converging necessary. Its hard to find anything thats made like it was 30 years ago. My point was just that i had something very similar that i am very satisfied with, and once Friz gets it adjusted, he'll be very happy with the picture quality.

The visual quality appears to be on par with the Vision Pro I just installed in the Williams Multi...

The way that was packed it was inevitable the chassis broke off. Now if there was a metal plate on the frame UNDER that chassis PCB then it probably would have been fine. Sounds like they need to change their frame design or get better packing materials (rigid foam type?).

Glad to see it works and looks good!!!

Wei-Ya?? Their monitors are junk as far as I am concerned. So were those Vision Pro monitors. However, they serve a market for CHEAP monitors. That's about the only nice thing I can say -- they're relatively inexpensive. Otherwise, their materials, workmanship and quality bite the big one. YMMV, but I wouldn't buy one!

I have a Wei-Ya G07 replacement chassis in my vertical MAME that's been fine for a couple years now. You're right... they server a market ... but not for just CHEAP monitors, but CRT monitors in general. If you've been in a box somewhere you may not have noticed this, but 19" CRT's aren't all to easy to find these days.

I have a Wei-ya monitor on location in a pizza joint. This monitor is 5 years old and is powered on 24/7. I recapped it once a few months ago and it still has a great picture!

LOL, not so much a box....more like a large crate!!

Anyhow, I was just having a conversation about CRT monitors with someone else on the phone. I just don't see the problem right now. In my area, CRT's - used and new - are not all that difficult to locate. Personally, I have had no need to purchase a NEW crt monitor in many years. The used ones are plentiful and they're typically in good condition. About the only time I do purchase new monitors is to test them out so I am fully aware of how good/lame they are. Wei-Ya definitely hit somewhere in the "lame" area through my testing.

What I wish is that WG and Electrohome would come back with new crt monitors. I've been using them forever and they never seem to let me down. Maybe there's an opportunity for someone to corner the CRT market with a quality monitor?

But, like I said, your mileage may vary with the Wei-Ya monitors.....I just can't find it in my heart to recommend them. I have to admit that I may change my tune on this subject eventually, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I'm a bit surprised that one of the multiboard guys hasn't imported a bunch of the chassis in from China/Korea/Taiwan/wherever, and undercut 8-liners, or does Victor just not mark them up that much (I would guess he is though at 85 bucks a pop shipped)

anyone who orders, I hope you have some patience. still no monitor for me and I ordered on 7/2, tried emailing but no response for 2 days so far. hope I don't have to resort to a paypal dispute.

Is there really a market for new QUALITY 19" raster CRT monitors? If so, maybe I need to expand my goals a bit. :)

I'm already in good with a Korean tube manufacturer, so it might not be too far of a stretch to move into raster monitors as well. Maybe Amplifone raster monitors? LOL

Good news...Cell number [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]305-807-1955 worked... talked to Victor who's sending me a tray out immediately.
