Any one on here purchased a new crt monitor from 8-liners and had good results? The 19" crts are only $210 shipped. I was told by a member on here that they are crap. It will go in a machine that will get about 10 hours of play time per year. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I bought a 25" from them a couple years ago when they still offered them and the picture was immaculate. I would have given it a 10/10. But, that was the 25". I can't speak for the 19". Each person has a different experience. Mine was great.

Get the same exact 25" chassis (Wei-ya 825HR) from Alva Amusement in Miami FL. They cost $89 before shipping. I have ordered from these guys for years and they are good. They only take orders over the phone so you need to call and the receptionist is very polite. They also fix their chassis if they have issues pretty inexpensively, and have a tech you can talk to if you have questions.

As for quality on these- they are not going to compare to a solid performing WG or Hantarex. They do have a nice sharp pic and good color. However, when one color is dominant on the screen, you do get some wash out. The other problem is their default width is about 3/4" too wide for most monitors, even with the width minimized. (You can swap width caps to fix this if you have the means) If you don't care about these things, then they are great replacements and I've never had one go bad on me yet from normal use. Remember, they're only $89 and made in China so again, no WG or Hantarex build quality. But the bonus to these is they are so simple, they are very easy to work on and fix if they break.

I (also) bought one of these about 7-8 years back when they still offered them. This was when they were still using the Jen Shinn chassis (which I feel is MUCH better than the Wei Ya in terms of picture quality.) In fact, the monitor is still running in my TMNT just as solid as it did the day I got it. Great adjustments, spot on colors, good balance.

Now a few years ago I bought a Wei Ya replacement chassis for a different 25" tube I had laying around and was pretty disappointed with the picture quality (colors weren't balanced real well and it was tough to find the right contrast/brightness ratio.) Now it's used on my test bench.

I also have a 19" monitor from them (with the Wei Ya chassis) and it works just OKAY. The picture isn't as square as I'd like (some minor curling as well as a bend in the center of the image). I imagine that's a cap issue, but for now it does the job. It's only used as a backup monitor.

I agree with others that these monitors (at least in terms of the Wei Ya chassis) don't compare to the old workhorses (ie: G07s, WG, etc), but they can serve a purpose when all else fails, depending on how picky you are about the picture and what you can put up with. Personally, I'd just assume finding an old G07 or Wells and repair the chassis if needed -- and/or find a beatup cab that has a monitor that could work. The old CRTs were built to last and be easily serviced - I can't say so much for the "newer" ones from my experience.

Thanks for all the input guys. I am gonna try and pick up a cab with a nice monitor at the next auction in April. If I don't have any luck I will give the 8 liners a chance.

It's luck of the draw unless you specify to Victor that you want something specific. I've had good luck with (2) monitors that I bought from him with zero burn. I specified that I needed monitors that had positive sync (going into Williams and Atari pos. sync games.) I had to wait a few weeks to get them since he sells mostly monitors from 8-Liners which are JAMMA, negative sync. As far as communication goes, all of his reply emails to me was from his I-phone. They shipped double boxed from Florida to California without damage. Inside, he secured the monitor with 2x4's to protect the neckboard. I would say that I would buy from him again.

So I found a 19" wg for a good price. It is going in a blasteroids, will it sync up ok? Don't know shit about pos/neg sync.
