720 Video Problem

Yes, the switching PS.

FYI, Your serial number is also located on the PCB's.

According to the schematic, the PS has a +sense and -sense (see attached). Will most power supplies have this? I have seen it on the A/R II board, but this cabinet does not have one.

And thanks, BTW.

Most Switching Power Supplies do not have it. They can either be removed or you could connect +5 to the +sense and GND to -sense on the PCB.

OK, I finally got a chance to re-seat the ROMs on the video board, and there is no change. I also re-did the hack job on the bottom connector and soldered in a header. I checked the voltages on this header and see +5.15 for the 5V lines, and +15.18 for the 15V line.

The same garbage comes up on the screen - no booting. Any thoughts on what to check next? Sounds like a ROM problem, but which one?

Do you have an EPROM programmer?

If so, the next step is to read each EPROM and compare the checksums against the MAME archives to see if you need to replace one or more.

I'm afraid that the board may be severely damaged since the power supply was cranked to 5.4 volts.

No EPROM programmer. Could I use a logic probe to at least find out if any are good candidates for replacement?

OK, I decided I am going to send these boards out for repair, and I finally scraped up enough cash to do so. The only place so far I have found that will repair it is El Dorado games, and they are pretty spendy.

So before I ship off my hard-scraped cash and non-working boards to Missouri, I'll ask y'all. Does anyone have any other good resources for getting a System II boardset repaired?

Thanks.
