720 Resetting/Graphics Issue

Bob Roberts has crystals, but not he right ones. I'd look at what the exact part number is and do a Google and Ebay search for it and see what you find. Mine was replaced when they repaired my board. Francis at Ataricade gave it a go at first, but then we just decided to ship it off to El Dorado. People give them a bad rap, but everything worked great for me. I got it repaired and shipped back for $80 and it only took a week. Maybe their prices are too expensive for some, but I don't worry about $20-30 here or there...it's worth it for my peace of mind and the hassle.

Um..

You collect arcade and pinball machines and you don't own a volt meter? I'm still stuck on that, heh.. Way before replacing the crystal..

Good luck! by the way, basic meters are like $5 at harbor freight :)

I have found many problems that were easily fixed with just the power supply, either buy adjustments or replacement. It very well could be the power supply and should always be checked. I have gone on service calls and found the power outlet was turned on by a light switch. If it is a switching supply it probably needs adjusting. If it is an original it probably needs rebuilding/replacement.

This is such a common problem I put it in my signature. I put the allways in there on purpose. In ham radios I have a cheap meter hooked up to my supply at all times so I can watch spikes, drops, and losses. I would hook a multi meter to the +5 line a watch for changes when you coin up or do whatever is trigger for your problem. If it is not the +5 volt line then check the +12.

If it is not a supply problem then I would look at inter-connectors/cables.

Power supplies should always be checked first. It is the simplest, cheepest, and very easy to fix. It is the most basic thing that most all electronics need. I usually ask for what the voltages are so I know they have been measured.

I have spent much time looking over a bord for problems, probed with logic only to find out supply was bad.

PS

You are so correct about checking a power supply first.. It's where all the problems usually start from..

Just to let you know...

Nerdy got the ps from me, and I checked it personally before she picked it up and she also rechecked it before mailing.. So that was covered!

Glad to hear your up and running and got yourself a meter!
