Like the title says, I've got a 720 CPU that just started resetting on me after being on for around 30 mins. This just started happening the other day, and is now consistently doing so. I have 2 working board sets, and I've narrowed the problem down to 1 of the CPU boards, and not any of the Video boards, or my cabinet. The other CPU works fine for hours, as did this one until the other day.

I have tried touching all of the chips once it starts happening, and none are hot to the touch.

Anyone know what can cause a board to start resetting after being on for a bit of time?

Thanks for any help.

Turns out my problem was due to an intermittent ground connection. One of the pins in the molex connector, from the switching ps to the video board, was conducting intermittently, causing the Video pcb to reset, and therefore causing the CPU to reset as well (since it needs the video pcb up and running to boot all of the way). It took a while to find because it would usually just keep resetting right away, and over and over again. And the red led on the Video pcb never went out completely to indicate the problem was there.

Hope this helps someone else.

Nice! Glad you got it fixed and thanks for following up here. I'm willing to bet that 90% of 720 board problems are due to the connectors supplying power to both boards, or the edge connectors.

Double check that your PS is good, replace all connectors and headers on the boards, and you'll most likely be good.

Skate or Die!!!
