I just remembered what I did for my 6th grade talent show in 1983. I wrote these lyrics and sang them to the tune of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in front of the whole school.

Take me out to the arcade, take me out to the games
Let me play Pacman and Donkey Kong, I don't care if I ever get back
It was root, root, root for the high score, if you don't get it try again
For it's one, two, three men you're out at the 'ol arcade

Oh my gosh how awkward is that? I'm pretty sure I was wearing either a Pacman hat or shirt. I think I won second place. Video footage would be priceless and it's crazy that 25 years later I remember the lyrics.

Did parents and teachers "get" it, or were video games/arcades thought of as childrens toys even back then?

In 83 most arcades at the malls were considered a safe place for parents to leave their kids while the grownups shopped. Then at some point older delinquints and kids with poor upbringings started hanging there. They would hog the games and bully the younger kids..sometimes there were fights. I remember that before the arcade closed at the mall near my house the Sheriffs dept had set up a sub-station in a storefron directly across from the arcade it had gotten that bad.

That is an awesome song, next year at CAX (hope I can go) we should do a video/recording of it.

Either way that should be the KLOV theme song. LOL.

It's the new KLOV anthem. CAX performance next year, start preparing.
