i'll get more pics up when i have a chance to tinker with it.

but the paint is a bit rough, but the playfield and back glass are in awesome shape. It appears to be complete, but the fuses were pulled so im not sure of how well it is working.

original price at the salvation army: $400.
Price when discovered fuses were missing making testing unavailable: $250.

my 'im taking a gamble on this' argument to the store manager price: $100.

overall it seems to be a pretty solid made in chicago machine.
totally worth it.

this needs (cosmetic and maybe some mechanical) love and will be a project for a while, but it's complete. I already called up a buddy of mine that works in a chrome plating shop for the legs, trim, and back board who is going to hook me up with a nice deal for that. Just needs a 'little' paint.

so this is either a great or awful idea. I have not decided yet.

That machine looks awesome. If you need parts or a schematic contact Steve Young at The Pinball Resource.

thanks. its my first pinball and im just waiting to see if i bit off more than i can chew :D.

at least i cut my teeth on cabs by now. appreciate the info- i will check it out for sure. and keep on updating the progress on this one.

Where do you live? There are many pinball collectors all over the world. Most don't like working on EM pins but there is still help available.

out of chicagoland.

and from the looks of it i see why no one likes to work on em pins :D

but hey. its from here- maybe i can get some hometown pride on it.

There are a ton of resources out your way. If you decide you want help just post on RGP (rec.gaming.pinball). That is still the primary pin discussion group and where almost all of the old timers hang out.

my, aren't you a big ball of help! :D

thanks again!

nice grab... as with all EMs, good cleaning will make it work.. Clean everything!! one thing ive learned with EMs is cleaning makes them work 98% of the time.. Very rarely do you have a bad coil.. Most of the time the step-up units are gummed up..

Nice first pin with a soda fountain theme. If you paid $100 this was a steal. Even at $250 this is a decent pin. The back glass is in great shape. Like the soda fountain theme. All other things can be repaired or replaced. It all depends on how much you'd like to invest into this pin. That includes time and pacients.

Gottlieb was the king of pinball makers during this era. With exception of "one" shuffle alley they only built pins. The other major companies Bally, Midway, Chicago Coin, Williams built other amusement devices. The Gottlieb pins from this era are more sought after and essentially is based on the collector.

Good luck and welcome to the addiction.
