Got a tempest and for the most part the picture looks good, but the red is dim and I can't adjust it enough to get it as bright as blue and green. What are likely causes of this?

drop it off at my house for for a few years while i figure it out ;)

Has the monitor been capped ? Or had any work done to it ?

I just got it so I don't know. I can try asking the guy, but otherwise my assumption is to cap any monitor when I get it, so as soon as I can compile a good list of parts I need for the games I picked up (and for the games I already have), I'm planning to place an order.

So it is conceivable that a dim color could be a cap then? I'm guessing it wouldn't be the fly because that would result in all colors being dim, is that right? It does take a while for the monitor to warm up though, so my limited knowledge tells me to replace the fly for that reason. Am I on the right track?

And I guess I need to figure out if it has one of those LV boards installed and get one of those if it doesn't as well. My understanding from a little reading last night is that those are basically to prevent massive failure as opposed to addressing any kind of operational symptom.

i would not change the flyback just yet. I would cap and resolder it all first. I wouldnt even waste a lot of time trying to adjust a monitor that has not been rebuilt. Taking a long time to warm up could be weak caps and bad solder joints. That is where i would start.

Two likely fixes: Re-cap... if that doesn't fix it... rejuvenate as you may have a weak red gun.
