I've been rebuilding some pretty bad shape components to a 6100.

So I had to replace the HV adjust since mine was rusted away

I installed it and I read I need to preadjust the resistor to 5.5, but it says "upper contacts"

I adjusted it but I am not sure if I adjusted the correct side. I don't know what "upper" is

Can anyone clue me on as to which actual components are on the correct side for reference so I get this right and don't blow it up?

I just turn it all the way down (counter clockwise), turn the monitor on, then adjust it up until the B+ reads 180.

A long plastic screwdriver is your best friend for this adjustment. If you don't have one, leave the cage off and adjust it by hand with the power off. Adjust it a little, turn it on and get a measurement, then turn it off and adjust it a little more, etc until you get it where you want it...

Thanks CC is what I was looking for for (which is what I did for get the 5.5) I'll turn it all the way down and adjust it up. Thanks for the tip

If you turn it all the way counterclockwise and then turn it to the right so that the inner slot points to the 1 o'clock position, you will be pretty close. Works for me every time. I still use the HV probe to set the 180v though. Take a look at where the slot is pointing after you adjust it and you will see what I mean. Again, this is just a ballpark adjustment.
