I rebuilt a 6100, (we havent done a LV board...yet). It was dead when I started, now it works for about 5-10 minutes then it blows Q100. Its a 3904 that came with Bobs additional parts kit.. I realize this should be upgraded, but Im concerned there is something more amiss. I ordering a flyback, because I it did go out and come back on when I messed with the flyback..could an intermittant flyback cause that transistor to blow?

My hunch is that if it works for 5-10 minutes, the flyback's fine (although unless you replaced them, the caps on the HV supply probably aren't), and that the problem is with the 3904... maybe try an MPSA06, which can probably take a little more current than the 3904.

If you put an LV2000 on it, you'll most likely blow it, too. I have a friend who's chassis works fine in my cab, but in his cab it keeps burning up the LV2000 (which replaced the Q100). I don't know if he's had time to mess with it, but he was thinking he possibly had an issue with his power brick or transformer...

Try disconnecting the HVU too see if it still blows that transistor. If it does then its not your flyback. If it doesnt it could be the flyback but I would suspect that its not.

You've got an above normal load on the +24VDC side of the power supply. Maybe you have the screen adjusted too big?

Check the bridge rectifier in that brick. It may be causing some of your problems. (imho) You should still upgrade to the LV2000 or 6100. Just to eliminate the possibility of High voltage and Low Voltage combining and messing up more stuff on your deflection board.
