i put a 3in trackball on a 60n1 for cent/milli and it played pretty bad. i was wondering
if the 2 1/4 played any better or just scrap the idea. thanks.

thanks jbk do you have a 3in you can plug in see if it works the same?

I've used three" tbs. no prob. Is yours mounted correctly? I'll admit, my first trackball install on a 60/1 I foolishly mounted the 4 bolts like a joystick. Damn thing never worked well. Now I know why.... Lol

it does not seam to roll smooth. i can score 300k plus on centi and over 600k if i get past the screen that starts over the cent speed and i can get in the 120 to 200k range on milli so no rookie on playing. just installed a 3in and it does not play very well might as well use a joystick! it is installed right its rolling in the right direction please lol just not great on the 3in????

Sounds like you've got a defective trackball. Mine works great.

Is it new or used? May just need a good cleaning or a bearing and roller kit.

I have used both 2 1/4" and 3" trackballs in the 60-1's I have built; always new ones. Personally, I like the 3" trackball better.

it does not seam to roll smooth.

Rollers & bearings in good shape? Doesn't sound like it, and that'll make it act like the controller is messed up. I just rebuilt two of mine last month, night and day difference. I'd definitely replace the rollers at least if there's any grooving.

As an aside, I am finding the rollers go before the bearings on the ones I've worked on. Bearings freshen up with a bit of lube, but you can't fix worn rollers.
