Most people not familiar with arcade games only want them?

Reason I ask, is I had a crappy cabinet with a vertical monitor that I put a 60 in 1 on Craiglist with a couple of other really nice dedicated cabinets for sale.

Lots of responses for people wanting the crappy 60 in 1...even had a lot that asked if I would convert the other 2 cabinets to 60 in 1 and sell them...

Any similiar stories?

It could be a matter of value. People think, "Hey...I'm going to have this big, bulky machine in my house. Would I rather have one game I could play, or 60?" People that think this way are often not collectors. 60-in-1's or similar multi-machines are meant for generic or aftermarket cabs, IMO.

Years from now, people will want the multis because they'll remember multi-machines in pizza parlors and other venues from back in the day, or when they were younger.

They'll be looking for 60-in-1's out of nostalgia. Think you feel old today? Just wait. :D

I dunno. I have a MsPac, Galaga, Centipede and a Zaxxon and I will probably convert one of them to a 60-in-1 and sell the rest.

However, I won't touch the original boards or CP but make new ones so it can be converted back in a few minutes. Does that make me a non-collector? I don't think so. Freeing up 3 spaces in my basement will allow me to add a Neo Geo, Jrok cab, multi-Asteroids (or ZVG vector mame) and dedicated fighter mame cab (Vewlix would be a dream). I'd also like a pair of sit-down drivers. But some games shouldn't be emulated like Super Sprint or my Warlords CT.

I want to have a many multi-game cabs as possible that I can fit down in my basement arcade. Quantity over quality? Maybe. I call it a compromise so I can offer as many games as possible to my children and guests without piling them all in a FrankenMame. But I also collect pins.

I'm just trying to use the my limited space to it's fullest potential and offer the widest breadth of an arcade experience that I can within my means. I still consider myself a collector. Besides that, I get bored of Galaga and Zaxxon sucks.

I just got a 60-in-1 PCB for the following reasons:

1) Evaluate how well it reproduces the included games
2) It cost as much as an arcade board with just one game on it($150 - this is a fixed price on all used PCBs locally)
3) I wanted something simple to use in a homemade cabinet(I know MAME is more accurate, but hell, a computer motherboard is bigger than the 60-in-1 and I'm low on space. Even though I will use MAME on my cabinet, but only for games with a Yamaha YM3812 or YMF262 sound chip since MAME builds made before v0.60 support the old SoundBlaster sound cards with YMF262s or YM3812s on them, which gives authentic sound)
4) See what kind of hardware makes the 60-in-1 tick

Don't worry, though: if I do find the original PCBs of all the games on the 60-in-1, I will purchase the original boards. But those will not be used in the cabinet.

it just makes sense to people that want to have the old classics they loved to play but are in restrictions for space. One cabinet 60-1940 games It'll win everytime unless you're a collector or perfectionist.

Yep, it's all about space. For the "casual" owner, it's easier to get ONE game in the house (or the garage) than it is to get 30. But it can also be a stepping point to get the hobby started. Once the spouse accepts one, then you can try slipping in #2, etc...

If you are paying $150 for PCBs and 60-in-1s, then you need to PM Nixs... He has the 60-in-1 boards for $100 shipped.

60 in 1 is Great!

Anyone who disagrees must be...independently wealthy and have no limit on space and time...seriously this unit plays all the DK's great, all the pac's with speed up, burgertime seems good, dig dug plays great, xevious is ok, mappy, gunsmoke, congo bongo and even super old school classics like super cobra, frogger and scramble, qix, etc who can ever have all these machines. End of Story!

I am still an avid collector especially games with unique controls (other than joystick & buttons) so i have qbert w/multi, paperboy, vs tent, super sprint, crystal castles, gorf, zaxxon, battlezone, jrok, and also play many other classics on my 4p jamma 25" (mario bros, popeye, crazy climber, elevator action, jungle hunt, simpsons, etc. etc.)

Just bought another one of the new smaller 60 in 1 only $95 shipped! Haven't noticed any real difference between the two.

You do need to customize the control panel with both an 8way and a 4way joystick and put in 3 buttons and a roller ball and then it just rocks on a 25" Monitor. sound is a weak spot but it usually sounds fine to me i hear others complain?

Exactly! Started with a cab restore on a Galaxian...then purchased a Multi Williams (JROK)...then both Defender and Q-Bert projects...and planning on the next acqusitions

I've gotta ask - you are converting 25" monitor cabinets to 60 in 1?
How is the picture?
Do most of these cabinets have mounting holes to rotate the monitor?

How do you "advertize" the process to select and play a game - or more important, how to continue a game?

I did not take the requests to convert the 25" cabinets...but may now....]

Thanks!

The Average Jow wants an arcade game to stick in their mancave/game room with the pool table, big screen and kegerator. They would much rather have 60 games and variety than 1 and the nostalgia factor.

I run a 48 in 1 in my Scramble because I have a tiny 1 bedroom condo and am "maxed out" around 10 games and like having the variety.

I think the multi boards have done the most to kill this hobby since console systems came about BITD and killed arcades.

I don't think they have killed the hobby. They definitely have caused prices on dedicated machines of any game on that board to go down drastically. I also have my multi in a scramble. That's a beautiful cab. Games like Food Fight, Mad Planets, stuff not on multiboards still go for decent money, I think. And nowadays, the jamma stuff: MK's, KI, other fighters are going up from what they were 10 years ago when I started. Back then, MK's were 200 and Ms Pac's were 1200.

If you guys want to shit yourselves real fast we charge $3999 for a new 60-1. The kicker is we sold over 65 of them last year. Not all go for that pice but they wont go under $3200.

I thought about going all out and getting a new cab and such, but I ultimately like the stealth look, where it appears dedicated. Do you guys get your cabs from Brett, or do you have the fab'd somewhere else?

We have them made by a guy down in the city. Id make them myself if we had the time.

I'd get a 60-in-1 if they weren't so damn laggy! :(. I resort to original boards and Jamma assorted as a compromise until there are fpga versions of everything.
