I am a bit confused by the manual regarding the trackball hookup.

It shows the hookup for the trackball when in "upright/1 control" mode as coming into the P2 harness.

It also shows the trackball as hooking up to the two headers on the board. I recall someone saying that there was a setting to enable the trackball.

I don't have the harness to hook up to the extra connector, so I want to just use the P2 side of the jamma connector. Is there anything special I need to do that?

I am thinking of building another one for a friend, where I probably would get the aux trackball harness. Is there anything special/different for that? It looks like I would need to be in "upright/1 control" either way. Does it just read from both?

I made my own harnesses. It's a helluva lot cheaper that way and very simple. You can get the stuff from Bob Roberts or Mouser to make them.

And to actually answer your question:

There is no need to enable the trackball. If it is hooked up, it will register - as long as you use the right trackball...

I make my own harnesses when I need them as well. Like I said, I don't care about the hookup, as long as it works.

Can I hook a P1 ball up to the P2 controls in 1P upright mode and have it work?

yes. I don't do it that way, so I don't know if it has to be set up for Upright 2 Controls or not...

I have an older style 60 in 1 (uses player 2 joystick wires for trackball). I wired it up with a wico trackball and its not moving properly. Does the 60 in 1 work with wico?

I was going to dig out a happ or try to change the wires(But I am pretty sure they are connected properly). Just thought I would ask to see if someone knows. The wico ball is known good tested in another cabinet.

If your wico has green boards, that's probably why it doesn't work. try the Happ...

I checked the wico midi size ball and it has green circuit boards. It works, but the ball just jitters around.

I tried a marble madness ball (happ) and it does nothing. Not even a jitter.

I tried a wico mini (white circuit boards) and it does nothing.

Any ideas? In the setup menu I have the trackball settings at normal. I also tried the other choices and they did not appear to make a difference.

The jittering sounds like a bad opto or wiring.

If you have the wrong kind of boards (open collector vs open emitter) it will not work with the 60n1. It requires an open collector setup.

I built a couple of adaptors to make the open emitter boards, but they ended up being more expensive than I liked with the connectors I wanted.

If you have the bob roberts harness that plugs directly into the 60n1, I can sell you an adaptor to fix the board type problem. I can make one for the trackball harness as well, but those connectors cost more.

Drop me a PM if you are interested.

I know the two Wico balls I have need the adaptors.

I have had some happs that need them and some that don't.

I don't have personal experience with the Suzo, but I think they are the same as the happs.
