So, it turns out that I have one set of trackball boards that will work with the 60 in 1 and one set that won't. I got looking at them with a logic analyzer and was able to build an adapter to make all of them work fine.

Given that new boards are $16 each, do you think there is a market for a $7.50 adapter that will make old ones work?

For what it is worth, one adapter would work for two trackballs (8 boards), so a single board would work for a cocktail as well.

I assume you mean the boards inside the trackball and not the game boards?

If this adapter will allow an original Centipede trackball to work with the 60-in-1, then YES, there will be a market for those....

Yes, that is what I mean. I hooked up an original centipede ball with original trackball boards last night.

Definitely on for those... I was thinking of doing this myself, but you beat me too it :)
Let me know when they are available!
cheers

What connectors would you like to see on it? Male/female rectangular 6 pins so it will plug between the standard trackball harness and adapter harnesses from Bob Roberts that convert to a 6 pin straight header for the board?

6pin straight on both sides?

trackball on one side and straight on the other?

I'd think the best way to go would be an inline coupler type arrangement [ Male/female rectangular 6 pins so it will plug between the standard trackball harness and ...]
That seems the most elegant, plug and play setup.

I was thinking that initially too, but them realized that if I did that, the adaptor has to be mounted right at the ball.

Not sure if that is an issue for most people or not.

It would preclude using one board for two balls though.

For me that would not be a problem. Also, at 7.50/ea, even the cheap bastards here should be able to afford 2!

You could always leave mounting pads for an inline 6 pin .100 connector for the second TB and people could add it if they needed it. I may be wrong here, but I'd guess the vast majority of people needing this adapter only have 1 TB in the cabinet.

Yep, I got several Centipede trackballs that I can't use for 60-in-1s right now. An adapter to make these work would be nice.
