I have built 2 60 in 1 machines with the small board and they use old crt computer monitors. Both have been in use for a year or so and both now have the same problem: the sound doesn't work either when you turn the game on or if it is working if I touch the plexiglass over the monitor. If I restart it, sometimes the sound will work fine. I have checked the voltage and have 12 volts to the board. I appreciate any ideas on what the problem is or any suggestions. Thanks

sound

try removing all frame ground wires connected to active parts, cpu, power, monitor, and just use ac hot and neutral
(do not remove logic grounds from power supply or pcb)
i have found frame ground in built 60-1's is not compatible with
various diff potential grounds thoughout the designs of the monitor, pcb and power supply. i have had to do this cause of same issues. after this is done, problem stops

By the way, I am just getting around to finishing up my scratchbuilt 60 in 1 cabaret which is going to use a CRT PC monitor. Do I actually need an AC line filter, or can I just toss a fuse into the AC wiring and be done with it?

I have seen some, new out of the box, with no sound coming off the JAMMA but sound did come out of the miniplug jack. We just put a small cheap car audio amp(runs on 12v) between that and the speaker.

I have built three 60n1 cabs with pc monitors and never installed a AC line filter. Havent had any problems with any of them what so ever. Your results may vary, but i wouldnt waste time with wiring in one unless its needed.

I've built 4 and never had a problem either. However I use powered PC speakers, so they may have some sort of filter in them.

Thanks for the responses so far.....I don't have any grounds other than the earth ground coming from the monitor. I do have an a/c line filter on it though- I have not tried taking that off but I agree its probably not necessary.
The miniplug speaker jack does not work when the speaker is not working but does come back when the speaker comes back on after restarting it.

Any other ideas on how the monitor would cut the sound out?
