What kind of speaker was included from the factory? Just curious.

I don't know, I gutted it out and was going to use the original speaker so I left it in, but ended up using the speakers on the computer monitor.

Right now, there is a guy posting the link to this thread - "WTF! Here's another one, I've seen it all" on some record player forum.

In the future, others will keep posting "Have you seen this?" over and over again on said forum.

:D

as a collector of vintage electronics of all sorts and a vinyl collector in particular, all i have to say is i hope that thing was already gutted or otherwise not working in a major way before you did that. it is a beautiful console.

it wasn't gutted, but it was beyond simple repair. The guy at the radio museum gladly took the old "guts" to be used as parts. it was a fun build because half the work was trying to decide where things should go, how to best attach, and how to get wires where I needed them.

glad to hear it. as long as the parts can be used by someone else i see no harm nor foul.

i see no harm nor foul.

The only harm is another piece of history is lost to time.
No difference than the guy that turned the Star Wars cabinet into a chair or what Barry Weiss on Storage Wars did to that cool 1950 TV, let some jerk gut it and turn it into a diorama.
Why O why
So maybe next we can turn a Computer Space into a payphone booth or a fish tank or a NOS playfield into a coffee table or cut the tail end off a 57 Chevy and make a couch, O wait, that's been done.

Cool idea, although doesn't look real comfortable for sitting at. Next one, put the LCD in the lid so when it's opened the monitor is right in front of you. ;-)

I was trying to think of a way to reverse the picture so I could put a mirror in the lid....

A wooden joystick would have been fantastic!!!

now I just need another cool idea for a game. I'll have to keep my eye out at antique stores, and goodwill for something that is already game themed and make a dedicated game.

Another project I want to make is to get a cabinet where it's just the control panel and the monitor is set back a few feet, and mount a giant flat screen tv to the wall and ditch the monitor section completely. Ideally I want to find a board that will boot directly into a 2 player simultaneous pac man. any one here know of such a board or have the skills to make one?

I've always thought of making a briefcase arcade.

Imagine a thicker style steel looking briefcase with a nice LCD and somehow have the joysticks assembly swivel or fold into itself.

I like it, it's kind of "steam-punk" ish!

The wooden joystick is a great idea, you can probably find something to adapt at Home Depot in their hardware section, or hit up a Hobby Lobby. They have tons of turned wood items; cut off that plastic joystick top and epoxy a finished wood one on.

Showing the PCB with that subtle lighting is a nice touch.

woodgrain, or metal (im thinking oxidized brass) buttons would be dope too.
