I have a vga computer monitor hooked up and ready to play when all of a sudden it goes into power save mode and the screen goes completely dark and says it needs to be hooked to a computer to be taken out of power save mode.

Is there anything that I can do to prevent the monitor from entering power save without it being connected to a computer?

Any input would really help as I was almost done with this thing and then this happens.

I just completed a multicade and used a VGA monitor in it. In order to make it fit I had to remove the casing, which included the front control panel. Long story short: Without the monitor and menu adjustment buttons connected, it would give me some error messages. I then hacked up the original computer monitor bezel, leaving just the portion of plastic that housed the buttons... plugged the connector back into the monitor and it stopped giving me error messages. Try this if you haven't.

Thanks for the response. I also decased the monitor but I left the monitor adjustment buttons intact. My monitor actually comes on and looks fantastic but after about 10 minutes or so the screen goes blank and enters what the monitor calls a power saver mode and tells me that I need to hook it up to a computer. Is there a way to disable this function?

Well typically power save mode is a graphics card setting thats controlled by the computer. Since you have it hooked up to your jamma card I would think that you would have to search in the menu of the monitor itself. Possibly if you could give the make and model of the monitor I could look around further.

The fact that the monitor comes on and works tells me that it recognizes it's connected to something. I would say that if you can't find it in the monitor settings you might have to try a different one.

Not sure if this may help. I myself would disconnect / remove pins 11,12, 15 from any multicade I build. 12, 15 are the DDC for telling the monitor to do functions ie power saver etc.

Thanks again for the input fellas. I tried checking the menu settings on the monitor and the only thing that you could change was the brightness and screen size and position. As far as the model number I think it was on the case and I threw that away months ago. I'm going to try removing the pins tonight and I'll let you know how that goes!

I removed pins 11 12 and 15 from the molex connector at the monitor pcb and the monitor did not power on so I replaced pin 11 and it fired up! It's been running for over an hour and still no power save mode.
This appears to have worked thanks again for your input!

Good.. I knew it was one of those. I've seen so many vga monitors in my day the pinouts normally the same. Glad that worked!
