I'm wondering if there is any easy way to change so that I can have my 1 fire button on my Gyruss to be S1 button 1 instead of S2 button 2. I am using the JAMMA adapter (http://www.jammaboards.com/store/jamma-pcb-to-konami-cabinet-adapter/prod_288.html) so that I could connect it to my konami cabinet. Because of my one button being the second button, I cannot play any of the 1 button games. I would like to be able to play the 1 button games in addition to the no button games. Can anyone please lead me in the right direction? I'm excited to try more games out.

I read up some on the JAMMA harness pinout (http://www.jammaboards.com/jcenter_jamma_pinout.html). Can these pinouts on a harness be switched out? Or how I can get this to work so it's button 1 instead of button 2? I was afraid to yank out one of the connections on the harness if it's all permanently connected.

Thanks,
Geoff

my only option?

It seems my only option is going to be to change the adapter to map the buttons I want to where I want them to be. I was just hoping that the adapter I bought was going to not need additional effort. It seems the adapter's intention is not quite correct but it's pretty easy just to fix it I guess.

Any better ideas?

Thanks,
Geoff

First off, I think Gyruss is way too cool of a game to be multi'ed in the first place.

That said, there are a few ways you could accomplish what you are trying to do. The easiest way would be to use a pin extractor (or small screwdriver, paperclip, etc) to simply pop out the fire button pin on your Gyruss harness and move it to wherever on the edge connector maps to the button you want on the JAMMA harness. You would have to look at your Gyruss schematics to find the pin and its destination. This would not involve any soldering, and could be easily reversed... BUT, if left this way, the harness would not be able to run a Gyruss board plug and play.

The best way in my opinion would be to do what you said--modify your adapter board (that way you wouldn't be messing up the original Gyruss harness for when you come to your senses).

Find the trace on the adapter board that is coming from the fire button on your Gyruss harness. Trace this wire through to the JAMMA side of the adapter. Using an exacto knife, cut the trace leading to JAMMA button 2. Then wire a jumper from the trace for your button to the trace for JAMMA button one. It appears that there are some thru holes present on your adapter, which would allow you to easily solder a jumper wire in place. Do you have a multimeter with a continuity feature? This would be the best way to trace these connections.

Do you have an original Gyruss board? The sound on the original is so much better than on those multi boards. The sound alone makes keeping the game original to me.

You have a pretty crappy Gyruss-to-JAMMA adapter if it has the fire button mapped to S2...

Thanks!

Thanks both for the responses. I really appreciate the advice and how-to. Sounds like what I desire involves fixing the adapter I bought to do what I need to or creating a new one.

I don't want to nor ever want to convert my Gyruss into something else other than a Gyruss. Gyruss is awesome (even though I really want a Gorf again too)! Yes, I've heard about the sound issues with the icade version of Gyruss so chances are, I will be playing Gyruss with the original PCB.

I simply want to have the option of swapping boards in there if I want to use the cabinet for something else temporarily until I can acquire more cabinets/games. I'd rather not change the original harness or any of the connectors to the controls, monitor, etc.

Yes, I think it's a crappy adapter too and I'm really surprised that the adapter does that. I was hoping to avoid soldering/unsoldering. I sent an email to jammaboards.com but haven't heard back on it yet. I don't know if it's a flaw or intentional and that was my question to them.

Wow! You are so right about the sound difference. I've heard and read about it but you never really realize how different until hearing it for yourself. Today, I tried playing Gyruss on the 60-in-1 and the sounds are drastically different (and awful)! However, the shooting sound was actually tolerable even though it wasn't the same.
