Hi Everyone,

I have decided to take a old Pac-man cabinet that I have and put a 60 in 1 card in it (Don't flame me). The machine does not have a board in it.

I just put a brand new 19" CRT monitor in it and am trying to figure out the best way to do the control panel.

I want to have the standard 1 and 2 player buttons, Single Joystick, 3 Fire/Action Buttons and a trackball.

Are there any recommended layouts using the stock control panel? Also, does someone make a nice looking CPO for it?

Thanks,

Chris

I am not that familiar with the 60-in-1 but I was under the impression that only a joystick and single fire button were needed. That would help the control panel to have more of a stock appearance.

a 60 in 1 should have a joystick 3 buttons and a trackball. I do think guys have successfully added a spinner as well.

60--1

i like and use this layout
i think the joy should be center as shown
i think the 2 buttons are best on right (only one of the 60 games has a use for 3rd button and it even has a option to go 2 button)
and trac ball to left

some put the trc ball on right, buttons in middle and joy to left, i think this is a horrid compromise that puts to much value on a few trac ball games, i like mine much better as it give the top 10 games priority

No, 60-in-1's require up to 3 buttons for every game to function properly. Most games can get by with 2 buttons, but 2 of the games require 3 buttons. My CP has 3 buttons, and it works great. The 3rd button is also used as a "back" button when using the service menu.

3

what 2 games need 3 buttons?
and "most games get by" with 2 buttons? good to know as they only need or use 2 to begin with
i know gun smoke is one, but it has a 2 button play option which seems fine
if you have room for 3 then go for 3, but 2 is fine if you dont

LOL! A lot of people say that gunsmoke is better with three buttons. I meant that a lot of 60-in-1's get by with 2 buttons. LOL!!! A lot of posters are taken more seriously if they use proper punctuation! LOL!!!! Thanks for being an asshole, LOL!!!!!!!! Also the service menu uses the 3rd button for going back a page, LOL!!!!! Forgot about that one! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Gunsmoke is way better with the third button and Centipede needs a track ball.
Here is my cp on my DK.
I still need to change the cpo to a DK style vinyl cpo.
Sorry about the bag on the joystick.

I like the layout. I think I am going to buy a new Pac-Man CPO and cut the holes myself. I want it to look as much like a stock Pac-Man as possible.

Time to email Nixs and order a 60 in 1...

Or has anyone tried the bootleg arcade shop boards? Are they better? What games are available?

Thanks,

Chris

I have the arcadeshop control panel with joystick, 3 buttons, and trackball on my Ms. Pac cabinet. I can honestly say that I hate it. The number one button is so far to the left and so close to the joystick it is hard to play. As you can imagine, these are the two most used contols on the panel and they are right next to each other.

Did you make this one? Because your right and others in this post. The panels from mikes and arcadeshop don't make any sense at all.

Can I buy one like yours somewhere?

I have a DK (repro) 60-1 that I got from one of many shops that sells them retail. I was very picky when ordering it, I wanted the button layout and cp to look exactly like a working DK. After now buying some new reproductions and some classic originals I realized that it's either original or its not. My 60 in 1 looks like a DK. It's not at all a DK. I have decided to go the other direction and make it a more functional 60-1. I think both are nice BTW. Also, my cab is not original.

Doe anyone here identify with me desire not to have the fire buttons so close to the joystick? Have you done anything differently? (oops Camaromurph posted while I was typing). I agree with him.

I just did this project exaclty. Restored a Pacman cab. Installed a brand new 19" monitor, a 60-1 from Nix, control panel from Arcadeshop, and the custom Pac CPO that was done by some KLOVers. Very happy with the results:

panels

thanx guys for liking my panel
the guys from arcadeshop, mikes and a co. called arcade games 4 u , all copied ea. other thinking they were right, not a classic game player among the bunch, and mikes even got the trac ball hole wrong size at 2.5" its supposed to be 2.25"
i kept screaming as they were set to do it that way, that it was all wrong and totally horrid, (the design they have puts all the priority on centipede having the trac to the right, and in process wreks all the top 20 games that rely on center punch joy with buttons to right) no one listened.
my panel is the result of taking a pre trac ball panel which they did right with center joy and buttons to the right, and simply adding the trac ball to left, i cut the hole for the trac ball with a 2.25 greenlee hole punch that works so well it will cut thru the ol without marring the ol sticker on it, the panel without the trac hole is still avail from arcadegames4u.com (should fit ms pac, galaga, pac cabs but ask for measurements to be sure) or you can make some panels into this config yourself

I put the track ball on the right because I use it with my right hand.
I also like to use my left hand for the joystick and right for buttons.
So that is why I made my cp the way it is.

I know the joy isn't centered, but this let me play left or right handed for a lot of games. I've only done a dozen of these (I say that as truly a newb, the guys who do these have done many many more) but I thought centi was the best cabinet to do it to so far.
