I'm trying to identify whether some of my issues are monitor-based or game-based.

I already know my Shinlee monitor needs a cap kit as a few settings are maxed out but one of my issues is that some colors will look fine for a split second then disappear. It happens on the main Icade selection screen where the blue back ground appears blue but quickly turns dark gray/black and in some games.....most notably Dig Dug. In the short 13 second video you can see both the main screen dimming and and the Dig Dug dimming. The Dig Dug first board screen looks great at for a second but slowly the bottom two layers lose their color where the bottom layer has zero color all together.

Other youtube 60 in 1 videos seem like they don't have these issues:

So do you think this phenomenon is game-based or monitor-based?

I wonder if it is related to the 60-in-1 board because my menu looks just like yours (although I can't recall the quick blue-to-black fade). I thought it was monitor related so I did a cap-kit on my Sanyo 20EZ and did a bunch of other adjustments. The games looked better, but the menu still looked like crap. I don't think there is any way the colors could be slightly screwy in the games, but really screwy on the menu if the monitor was the issue.

I tried a JROK board in there, too, and the only problem were the colors were slightly off for red.I think the convergance rings need to be fiddled with - they looked set too "uniform" like the previous owner of the cabinet fiddled with them to fix a bad power-supply issue.

I have to pull another JAMMA board out of another cabinet to try it in this one, but so far I've been chalking my issues up to shitty 60-in-1 like I bought an "F" quality board or something. I was telling myself once I get the monitor setup I'll spring for an ArcadeSD board, but I may do that sooner than later since I think my 60-in-1 is bad.

As a side note, how is your VGA out on the 60-in-1? I recall mine being good for VGA, but the CGA out is what is giving me issues. I'll try and do a bunch more board swaps and try and take some pics today to add to this thread.

Yeah I'm sure its a monitor issue because I can adjust the monitor so that there is no fading by adjusting the 'screen' adjustment by the flyback but then I get 'jail bars' which is really annoying on black screen games. I will update this post after I do a cap kit but it probably wont be for a month or so (haven't even ordered it from BobRoberts yet). I'd really like to track down a flyback for this monitor but its impossible to read the full flyback model number on the Shinlee EM201 manual scan online.....I just bought a physical manual on eBay so I should be able to figure it out.

As of now I'm stuck with either having vibrant colors with no fading and jailbars or a compromise were the colors are not the greatest but no bars......I settled with a livable compromise til I get this thing capped.

Here is a video of the adjustments.

How is your video out connected?
CRT? LCD?
Its a standard CRT arcade monitor......albeit a rare one a Shinlee EM201. I know the monitor has issues as a few settings are maxed out and aren't enough (I can't center the picture) but I'm hoping a cap kit fixes that.

Well lazy me, over 6 years later and I finally yanked the monitor out to recap it. It has been so long that I actually bought a fresh cap kit since the others have been in a box all this time. There were at least 6 caps that have leaked out a clear, crystalized fluid on the pcb. I thought for sure my issue would be solved but the brightness and screen still do the jailbars if you try to make it any brighter and it needs to be brighter. The adjustments are just acceptable when the monitor is out but when it is installed I get the bars so I have to dim it down. I wonder if it is a gravity thing in the flyback? FYI-my B+ is within spec of 123V.
