60-in-1 board issue or monitor issue?

Hello,

I have a 60-in-1 board that I recently hooked up and it worked fine. I adjusted the horizontal and vertical widths on my monitor via the coil and the little metal slit type potentiometer.

Somehow the colors are not showing up correctly and the graphics are not sharp in the "menu" screen of the multi-game. Also, ONLY in the menu screen, I get weird vertical white lines where it should be black. See attached pictures.

I had to take the monitor w/ chassis out and set it on the edge of the cocktail table to make the adjustments as I could not see anything with the monitor in the game (gotta love cocktails!) Any ideas on where to even begin with this? It seems I can't dial in the right color "pink" for Pinky in Ms. Pac and I can not get a good brown color (for barrels and monkey in DK). Maybe i disrupted a cracked solder joint on the chassis board? To change the colors, I was adusting the RGB dials on the neck board.

Any ideas? The colors displayed fine before I adjusted/messed up the monitor. This is a 19" Nanao monitor.

What type of monitor is this? I remember someone posting not long ago about a similar problem using brand new Kortek or Betson monitors....
 
That's the tube. if your not sure what chassis you have, post a pic....
 
I was just confirming that I'm a newbie :) I took some pictures of the boards on the chassis. Hopefully these will help. There is a piece of paper in the cabinet that says Nanao Type 20 and the diagram of the h-size and the v-size placements on the board matches up with the board that is on the chassis...if that helps at all.

Do you have another monitor you can hook as a test? perhaps a computer monitor that can connect to the VGA output?
 
I'll find a computer monitor to hook it up to and post back what I find out.

I just hooked up the 60-in-1 board to a computer monitor and everything displays properly. I believe this narrows it down to the arcade monitor being the problem?

I don't see how the corrupted graphics that you show in the
pictures could be caused by the monitor.

Just because it works fine through VGA, doesn't necessarily mean
that that your arcade monitor is bad, especially since you mention
that the problem only occurs in the main menu.
 
My 60-in-1 is plugged in through a Konami-to-Jamma adapter. Do you think the adapter is causing the problem?

If I hook up the frogger board it appears to work fine, except I can't dial in the colors to make the logs brown. They only change different shades of yellow.

Your adapter may indeed be the problem. Got a JAMMA game around you can try it in?
 
This is my only game, so no I don't have a JAMMA game to try it in. I do have a spare JAMMA harness...maybe I should try hooking that up to the board and monitor?
 
Do some resistance or continuity checks between the 60-in-1 pad outputs for the monitor and the connector to the monitor. See if you have perfect zero's (or close to it) or if you have any interference.....
 
I just tested the resistance between the JAMMA connector to the RGB connector that plugs onto a board near the monitor. There is also a blue wire with white stripes and white wire on this plug. Sync wires? There is a lot of interference/resistance for the Red (250/400), Green (250/400), and Blue (250/400) wires, (0/400) interference/resistance for the blue striped wire and about 60/400 for the white wire. My multimeter starts out at 400, then drops the better the resistance is.
 
OK, I was looking around at the wiring some more and I didn't realize there was a small RGB circuit board that has resistors on it that the RGB wires feed into, then out of before they go into the large board on the chassis. The first time, I was measuring between the Jamma connector and the connector AFTER the little board, hence the resistance. I measured between the pins on the 60-in-1 board and where the RGB wires go into the little board and I get the following readings.

Red - 0 resistance
Green - 0 resistance
Blue - 0 resistance

Ideas?

What was the game in this cabinet before you tried installing the 60-in-1?

Do you have a pic of the RGB board? You'll probably need to remove it and patch the wiring harness, but I'd like to see a pic to be sure.
 
This is a Sega/Gremlin Frogger. I have attached a picture of the little board that the RGB filters through.

Well, you could try making a jumper for the red from the input to the output of that board, just to see if it clears up any of your problems with red. if so, then you may need to bypass that board completely...
 
I made a jumper for the red wire to bypass the little circuit board. This made the colors even worse. For example, I went to play Donkey Kong and all of the red levels that Mario walks on were invisible (these levels are red).
 
Interesting. I can't rule out the monitor (or connection to it) because I've not used that monitor type. If you have another regular monitor to connect to it, I'd try that next....
