I'm putting together a 60-in-1 and going through the joystick debate. I see there are a couple 4x8 way joysticks out there (Sanwa seems to be the one everyone goes to). My question is how bad are the 4way games if I use an 8way joystick?

I looked through the list and didn't see to many 8way games.

I'm leaning toward using an original pac joystick but rebuilding it cost about as much as a new one..which would be smaller mounting (the new one). I plan on using a 3" track ball thus room is an issue also

Best bet is the find a nice Ms Pac joystick and use it. The new ones suck on the 60's

I bought Ultimarc's MAg-stik plus that is 4/8 way switchable from the top: http://www.ultimarc.com/controls.html. I haven't installed mine yet but has received good reviews despite the short throw.

The one complaint I have is if you want a ball-top instead of a bat, you have to order that separately. What do I do with the bat now? Wasteful.

I'm so tired of saying this - but a Sanwa stick with an octagonal gate is the best. It's not your usual 8-way stick because of the octagonal restriction. Nice throw on the stick, too. Plays both types of games great without switching. The restrictors are a few buck from Lizardlick.

If anyone that doesn't have room on the CP for a dedicated 4-way has tried this and DIDN'T like it, I'd like to hear about it.
