Ok whats the secret?? Is there a special setting when you hook up track balls on the 60-1?? Just got 3 60-1 "A" boards yesterday. My buddy has a 60-1 trackball harness from bob roberts. cant get track ball to work on any of them.

has to be a setting?

Where were these "A" boards bought from?
There have been some reports of the trackball connection not working, and needing to use the player two connection, like on a "B" board. Which makes me wonder if some sellers are calling the b an a.

What I would like to know is what that harness looks like so I can build one.

Look at the picture on Bob Roberts site. I just used that to make one.
Here you go.

Only issue is it's hard to see the purple wire on the trackball side, but since it's the only wire hard to see, and you can see all the others, it's easy to know where it goes

Its straight thru... I got ya 4ft harness.

I've said it before, when I used to pay over $200 for the boards the trackball worked 100% of the time right onto the board.

The last few "A" boards I got did not work that way, and it f<<king pissed me off. I don't want to splice into player 2 wiring and figure all that crap out.

but I had to. :)

Is there a way to tell the difference from an "A" board, and a "B" board??? I can post a picture of my boards.

It's likely your trackball harness is wired wrong.

This was taken from JammaBoards' site.

2.54mm Connector (Connects to J3 on 60-in-1 PCB):
PIN 1 - Black (Ground)
PIN 2 - Violet (Y2)
PIN 3 - Blue (Y1)
PIN 4 - Yellow (X1)
PIN 5 - Green (X2)
PIN 6 - Red (+5VDC)

Larger Trackball Connector Side:
PIN 1 - Black (Ground)
PIN 2 - Red (+5VDC)
PIN 3 - Yellow (X1)
PIN 4 - Green (X2)
PIN 5 - Blue (Y1)
PIN 6 - Violet (Y2)

even if it were wired wrong, as long as he had ground he should get some movement or something shouldn't he? (I am asking as well as suggesting because I don't know)

I just worked on a Multicade last week using a "A" board. The trackball had no movement untill I swapped the wires around.

I was using a HAPP trackball.

Dan I assume your track ball has the right optical boards in it...right?
The red boards.

just to throw a wrench in the works... I just bought a new happ 2 1/4" trackball off ebay - the boards are green, and it worked fine with my A version 60-1, using the trackball header. Incidentally, i've had this one for a while. Bought it from from Wu a couple of years ago.
I made the harness myself, fwiw.

the green boards have always worked for me.
but once I heard someone say use red boards, I simply switched to them.
It is conceivable that some of these need green boards? is that blasphemy?

Thanks for the input guys I just got off work. The harness is wired same as jamma.coms and the trackball is older with green boards. Is this the problem that I'm trying to use an older trackball? Can I use it if I wire into player two or do I have to buy a newer trackball? Red board Green board A board B board no wonder I'm confused. Thanks again for the info

Here is a picture of two different style icades. Maybe it will help...

The one on the right has an extra connection on the bottom right called con6. While the one on the left has a big ass chip. Both boards look the same to me when I fire them up in software. All tho I did not go into great detail when I checked them out.
