I have a 60-1 that i bought this new 2 1/4" trackball for and when i plug it into the con3 port i get nothing. I have tried the con4 port as well with no results also. the trackball is new and i have the correct harness, what am i doing wrong??? i did check the 5v and ground pins on the con3 port and the voltage was -5v. I'm not sure why because the -5 is not even hooked up. what am i missing???

I believe there is a setting in the set up menu for the trackball and possibly one of your 4 dip switches on the board is in the wrong position.

No. You should see movement in the test screen without doing any dip changes.

When testing your voltage, did you have the black lead on the black wire and the red lead on the red wire? That should give you +5. If you have the leads reversed, that will give you -5.

As for making your trackball work - sometimes the CON3 connectors didn't work on some versions of the 60-in-1. You can try it on CON4 to see if it registers as the 2nd player trackball, or connect it to the player 2 directional wires to see if that helps. When the CON connectors don't work on those certain versions, the 2P directional wiring does...

turn on trackball under settings

There are no "settings" to "turn on" the trackball. It's either connected the way the board wants and works, or isn't and doesn't.

The "trackball settings" in the menu are only for changing the directions the CLK and DIR are detected, just in case you installed the trackball the wrong way and don't want to take it out again...

Missed that. Are both boards red? Trackball has been verified to work with another game?

Meter the optics boards and see if +5v is making it there, I guess.

AFAIK, there's no unique setup required to make the trackballs work on the 60-in-1.

sorry guys, i had to work 12 hours today because of the snow. i just got home and saw all the replies... let me go theough them as best i can. I rechecked the voltage and yes i had the leads backwards DUH... so i do have +5v . I have tried it on both con3 and con4 with the same results. Both the boards are red, the trackball is new, not saying it couldn't be bad, but i did try it on an older 60-1 that i have that is the "A" version with the 8 dip switch and i had the same result, nothing :( i don't have any other board to test it on. Here is the link to the trackball i bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/120967811704
I know this should be plug and play but it just isn't working. I bought the 60-1 from bryan at paradisearcade, i think all they sell is the trackball compatible boards. It sounds like there is a way to run the player 2 direction wires to the trackball?? if that is possible, could someone point me in the right direction on how to do that? I'd much rather just be able to plug it in and it works, but if i have to rewire it then so be it. Well thanks for all the help guys and i'll check back tomorrow after work (probably another 12 hour day), and i should have some time to get at this on saturday, so keep the answers coming....i'll try it all. :) Thanks again

You take the 4 wires in the middle of your connector (which you leave connected for the +5 and ground) and connect them to the Player 2 Up/Down/Left/Right wires.

Here is the pinout of the CON3 connector:

And here is the way it connects to the Player 2 directional wires:

If it still doesn't work after that, you either have a defective 60-in-1 pcb, or incompatible/defective trackball optic boards...

Thanks, i'll give it a try tomorrow and post the results.

BTW, that was what I had to do. The COM ports on my 60-1 only worked in cocktail mode. In upright mode I had to attach the trackball wires to the 2P directionals.

Well i figured it out. After modessitt brought to my attention that i might have metered the voltages backward I thought to check the voltage on the trackball end of my harness, and lo and behold it was -5. i switched the power and ground wires in my plug at the pcb end and it worked!!! But alas the directions were all backward.... so i switched the 4 direction wires as well and VOILA, a perfectly working trackball. The moral of the story is that my factory trackball harness was backwards. i couldn't just turn it around because it wouldnt fit the plug on the pcb, so i just backed out all the wires and reinserted them in their proper place. I want to thank all you guys for helpping me out. This was my 1st trackball build and i learned a valuable piece of information and i hope it helps others out as well. thanks again for all the help!!!
