5th Annual Southern-Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta June 8-10, 2018!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to make an official post to promote the upcoming 5th-annual Southern-Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta June 8-10, 2018! We've continued to grow the number of games available to play and increase both the size of the show and the variety of stuff to do over the weekend. We're still adding guests, but this year in addition to KLOV favorite John (Blkdog7), we've got pinball designer (and voice of Shao Khan from MK) Steve Ritchie, and we'll feature live music from Bit Brigade. This year we're adding more arcade and console tournaments, and have several surprises up our sleeve.

We just released our latest promo video, so check it out below. If you're thinking about coming, memberships are still just $55 for the whole weekend until March 12! So don't miss out!

Here's the link in case the video doesn't show: https://youtu.be/vKsk55EfD48

Don't forget, in addition to arcade and pinball games, we have tabletop gaming, vendors, an independent film festival, and even Live wrestling. Learn more at www.GameATL.com

Just added Orin Day as a guest to the show. He's a pinball programmer with over 20 games to his credit and he's worked for Data East, SEGA, and Stern pinball, so I'm sure he has tons of stories.

Also, just confirmed wrestling is back for TWO nights again. I think we're the only gaming show with live wrestling! Also, our charity this year is Project Pinball who donates pinball machines to children's hospitals.

We've almost sold out of hotel rooms, so be sure to book now if you haven't already!

Some updates since the last time I checked in:

New Guests Added

Orin Day (pinball programmer)
Billy Mitchell (disgraced bearded guy)
Walter Day (Twin Galaxies Founder)
Rich Sommer (Tabletop Podcast host who also played Harry Crane on Madmen)

New Charity
We've previously given thousands of dollars to Atlanta Community Food Bank, but this year we're partnering with Project Pinball who places pinball machines in children's hospitals to aid in their recovery. (If you have something to donate to our silent auction let me know!)

Giveaway Game
We're in need of more games to come to our show. To entice more entries, we're giving away a Striker Xtreme pinball machine. Submit your games here: http://southernfriedgameroomexpo.com/bring-your-games/

I'll be there, and I'm bringing a friend this year. Went last year as a spur of the moment decision and had a blast. I was expecting a bit more parts trading though. I didn't expect to discover how much I love pinball. Never got to play for more than a few minutes before, now I get as excited about finding one tucked in the corner at a restaurant as I do an Arcade game.

Take it easy on John if you can. I can understand if you're not a fan. That loud and boisterous personality definitely ain't for everybody, but he and his YouTube channel have done a lot for the members of this community and for getting new people interested in the hobby.

Hey gang! Less than a month until the show. We've got some exciting things up our sleeves. We have more arcade games than ever before. There's more to come, but check out the current list here: http://southernfriedgameroomexpo.com/games2018/

This year, our friends at Stars and Strikes are bringing the gigantic classic flashback, Space Invaders Frenzy. We'll be hosting a tournament on the game and if you win, you could take home your very own arcade game- a 4-player Blitz 2000 Gold/NBA Showtime! The start time is TBD, but be sure to check our upcoming schedule to see when you can blast your way through aliens!

2018_ZoarAnnuoncement.jpg

Last year we debuted Nintendo's long-lost Sky Skipper arcade game. This year, we've got something else up our sleeves…ZOAR! Ever heard of the arcade game Zoar? We didn't think so. This little gem from Data East didn't find much traction in the arcades in 1982 and was lost to obscurity. It's so obscure, in fact, that there's only ONE recorded high score on the record books for this game. What does that mean? Well, it means that when we bring our brand-new, never-played Zoar arcade cabinet to SFGE, someone will have the chance to be the second best Zoar player IN THE WORLD!!! Will you take home the crown?

Huge shoutout to KLOVer Hailrazer for his help in installing this NOS kit and refurbishing a cab so this game will look BRAND NEW!!

Speaking of parts trading... I have a non-working Centipede board I'd like to trade + cash for a working one, that kind of thing happen at this show (never been) or should I leave it at home?

You may want to bring it in the car, but we're not really a flea market/swap meet type of show. You'll still have fun, we just don't really have a place to do that kind of thing.

For those of you who followed my saga trying to build Bucky O'Hare I am bringing it to the show. It's going to be a fun time with everyone

I'm pretty excited about this. I've never been before and plan on bringing a box of stuff to trade.

We're going to try and "spice" things up this year. Who likes hot stuff? Then this game might be for you.

Just a little less than two weeks away and we have finally finished getting all of the games we are bringing to the show cleaned up and ready for play.

Thanks to me committing it to this show, we got off our asses and finally got our Domino Man up and running. It has been sitting in a corner unplayable for at least 5 years - come play it at SFGE 2018!!!

Speaking of rare titles you don't see too often (or ever), I am also bringing my Mystic Marathon! If you like running to the right, you do NOT want to miss the opportunity to play this rare bird.

See ya there!

Even if SFGE isn't the best time/place to do a swap meet, I would love a Atlanta area swap meet/meet-up, maybe like later this year in the fall? We all should meet up once in a while ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing it there and playing it.

That would be cool. We could also think about setting up an unofficial swap each year at the show in the future.
