$50 Tempest and Asteroids !

I'm guessing it went down like this:

John did the smart thing and told the seller "Are you sure Sunday? I can come pick up right now with cash."

The seller heard "now" and "cash" and said "Sure, come on down!"

John picks up games. John takes games home. Celebrates with kids.

Seller emails everyone else saying "Sorry, the games have been sold."

John wins the hunt!

:D

Very well played.....I am sure this is how it went!

Yeah a couple hours after I had left a message I thought about just calling the Moose Lodge and seeing if I could just come now, guessing that is what happened. At least it went to a fellow collector, great pick up can't wait to hear about the condition.

I used the Jedi Mind Trick to get him to let me come today.

Thanks for the positive words guys. When I posted the joke earlier about getting them I really never expected it to happen. I'll put more pics up and all that later. They seem to be relatively complete other than the Tempest missing a coin door. Haven't had time to inspect them or plug them in. Just moved them in the house. And I didn't spend any time inspecting them when I got there...

Beware of spider and maggot infested Tempests!

(That was a tempest with that problem, wasn't it?)

I talked to the atendant at the lodge yesterday about mid day when they did the group response. he made it seem like you had to haul it down a big flight of steps and they had no elevator to where it was stored.

I just had to pass as I couldn't get the right dolly and get in on the hunt. I'm only about 30-40 mins away from where it was but could only haul one away at a time and only wanted the tempest.

He made it sound like people had mucked with it and that it wasn't as simple as the yoke board had fallen off.

+1 win for John H.

Ok, in case anyone is interested, here's the actual "behind the scenes" account of the way the deal happened:

I e-mailed the guy and said I was interested. Didn't hear back for a long time but finally got the e-mail saying they would show it in a couple days and to call the number and ask for Ernie if you are interested. I called the number and asked for Ernie. He was a super nice guy who didn't know much about arcade games.

I told him he could get much more than he was asking for the games. He said he wasn't sure because they were broken and someone had messed around with the wiring or something and he was waiting to show them to someone until he had time to check them out closer because he didn't want to waste peoples time. I told him that I would pay $50 even if the cabinets were totally empty. He said, "oh, do you want to come get them today then?" and I said I would love that. Again, I told him that other people would offer more for them though. And he said, "Oh don't worry about that, I'll hold them for you". He also said they were upstairs and I would need a hand truck to get them down.

When I got there, he said lots of people were offering more but that a deal was a deal and he told them all that they were sold. He was just a stand-up guy all around. I saw the stairs...they were extremely high and steep. But the games were already downstairs. Some of his fellow Moose brothers had moved them downstairs for me. Very very nice of them.

Then he asked if I wanted to see around the lodge, which of course I did. He gave me the grand tour and explained what the Moose Lodge does. They had a pool table, pong game, lots of band equipment and instruments in the basement, and a HUGE bar with a lot of bar stools. He mentioned that they drink beer a lot. He also said they had another arcade game somewhere but we couldn't find it...the place is pretty big. And he didn't remember what it was.

They also had a pool table, fooseball table, and a really cool...I'm not sure what to call it....shuffleboard maybe? On a tabletop where you slide the pucks down a looooong table that has sand on it. Some of you will know what it's called.

Anyway, he helped me load them on the truck and I trundled on home with them. Nothing mysterious. Just a super nice guy, some really good luck and a fun little adventure into the Santa Cruz mountains. The roads were a bit twisty which made for some nerve wracking driving experiences a couple times.

That would be shuffleboard, table shuffleboard to be precise. I would actually love one if I had the space. They do definitely take up a lot of room. Pretty fun game with a group of friends. It is actually a lot like curling if you watched the Winter Olympics at all.

Nice score on the games and good luck getting them up an running.

Tempest lives! A new cap kit, new transistors all around, a few other components here and there, LV2000 upgrade, fixed the hacked wiring.....turned it on adjusted the focus and brightness and....it's beautiful! And just as fun as I remembered it.

Thank you to all those who gave tips along the way....I'm energized now!
