I have a House of The Dead 2 with a 50" Mitsubishi projection monitor Model#50P-GHS91B. I have a problem with the convergance. I know most projection monitors have 2 18 pin convergance IC's that cause these problems but this one doesn't. See attached picture. All the colors do not fill the screen. Any Idea what the problem is? Anyone have a schematic for this model? I also need a remote for it

There ARE convergence chips on the chassis, but they are under a lot of heat sinks and other stuff. They are probably fried. I tried to fix one in a HotD2 also once, and eventually took it to a licensed Mitsubishi repair shop. They told me that the chips were no longer available, and that even if they were, the labor to dismantle the board to replace them would cost more than the TV was worth.

They recommended watching CL for a cheap 50" projection TV (now that everyone is switching to HD) and swap the entire thing in....

if its anything like the Mitsubishi I fixed...the chips are standard audio amplifier chips (STKs) and are cheap to buy - check www.electronix.com. Apparently depending on how well the guns and mirror are aligned from the factory control how hard the chips are ran to adjust convergence. Poor gun alignment = more convergence correction = chips ran hot enough to fry bacon on.

Usually they are on a HUUUGE heat sink. I'd recommend mounting a 5in fan to it if you get it working again.

Be very careful soldering these chips, and I'd recommend ordering one extra - the legs are soldered/welded onto the chip itself and they can fall off if they get too hot. The first chip I got for my TV was a pile of legs in a baggie.

I took it apart tonight and there are no STK series convergence IC's anywhere on the chassis.
There are 6 large heatsinks in the conv. circuit with 2 transistors each (1 - B1063 and 1 - D1499). On the sub board in the conv. circuit marked SYSCONV there is a 80 pin surface mount IC CM0007AF and that is " a silicon monolithic CMOS IC. It is designed for digital convergence correction in projection TV's."

I would say that is the problem because the problem is with all colors. It looks like the CM0007AF is unavaliable.

Not sure where to go from here. Looks like I need to try and find someone that has a good SYSCONV board.

My guess is that one or more of those transistors crapped out, and is pulling down the supply rail for the rest. Considering how friggin big those heat sinks are (very simliar to the STKs in my tv), if they're cheap enough I'd just replace all those transistors.

I tried to check all of the transistors on the big heat sinks in circuit and they all look good. It looks like they are unavaliable also. The full part numbers are 2SB1063 and 2SD1499.

I'm lazy - if google doesn't give me an answer within a minute I'll call my local NTE dealer and give them the numbers so they can cross reference the part for me OR do a live chat with a sales rep on Mouser or Newark and let them find it for me. And for what it's worth, that TV made me feel like I was trippin on acid all over again. The 90's were sweet heh heh

2sd1499 crosses to a 2sb1063 here: http://www.kult-info.cz/cross-ref.htm

That can't be right. 2SD1499 is a companion to 2SB1063. The 2SB1063 is NPN and the 2SD1499 is PNP.

It looks like the 2SB1063 crosses to a NTE55
And the 2SD1499 crosses to a NTE54

I think my best bet would be the NTE55MCP. That is a set- NTE54 and NTE55 matched complementary pair sold as a set. Now just need them for a good price. There are 6 sets on the board.

I'm still unable to find the CM0007AF for the convergence board in stock anywhere.

2SD1499 available at Electronix.com...$1.67 ea

http://www.electronix.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/6_303/products_id/3420

MCM has replacement/sub for 2SB1063, but they're $4.50 ea...

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/2SB1063

Still not too too bad to fix a 50in monitor.

By the way, I thought about it, and one way you can tell that other convergence board is good - I'll bet if you try adjusting the convergence, all 3 colors will move around, just not line up. If thats the case I'd bet its really these transistors.

Ooh MCM has that matched pair too..$10 ea
