It was a good day. Despite a horrifying headcold things are going ok today. Why? Because I just picked up a $50 Millipede. A game I've had on my 'list' for years. Was on CL as 'monitor not working'. Didnt care. Went and looked at it and literally it had an inch of dust on it...Dusted it quickly with a towel and loaded it up. Brought it home and turned it on.

Neck glow was good, nothing on screen...Left it for about 5 mins and the pic came on. Probably hasnt been on in 10 years. Needs major adjusting and probably a cap. And its this matsushitty monitor that I've never dealt with before.

Here's the crazy thing. So I go and look at the game, $50 so I'm taking it regardless of conditions etc. Its crazy dusty and has been in an unheated garage for pretty much, ever. I ask where he got it... "I won it new at an auction back in the 80's".

Wow. I just grabbed a HUO Milli for $50. Insanity.

Here's the rub. The thing has 70,000 on it...Plus the control panel overlay is really worn...

Side art et al are in amazing shape. Thing looks completely new on the inside. In fact, the manuals were still in their original bag...

question is, could a HUO game really rack up 70,000 games?

Sorry the pics, they're from my cell...

No way a HUO game has 70,000 plays. Maybe he put it on route or something.

it could maybe if he had a few kids and they and their friends played it a ton and beat one it. it's a 28 year old game. that's 10220 days. 70k plays averages out to 6.85 plays per day.

so 10 years in storage, 20 years * 365 days = 7300 day
so if you play it about 10 times a day then you would have 73,000

I'd say yes it could happen

cleverlyj beet me while I was doing the math

I think the machine was on a route, or in an arcade in the early 80s, and he bought it after that arcade shut down and they auctioned off all the stuff...

sounds reasonable to me.

Side art looks great, so it was probably packed between a few machines

i should clarify...

he bought it from a pbs auction...not an arcade auction but a fundraiser for the local pbs (wgbh).

also, i have no idea how long its been unused...it never went to storage, i just assume (based on dust, age of his kids etc) that its been siting for 10 years

I emailed the prior owner for more info. Apparently it wasnt new when they bought it...They bought it for $1500, not $2100 and it was about 25 years ago...So, not HUO but hey, not bad either, its been in private hands since ~1985...
