I searched CL last night and found a GORF for sale. When I went to pick it up, I did not have enough cash. I went to a different bank than my own and transposed my pin number. I proceeded to lock out my card. I then had to go to my bank and through the drive-through, withdraw cash and have my pin re-set. The road construction around this part of town is terrible, so it took me longer to get there than I wanted. I finally got there to pick it up.

The cabinet is in rough shape. The top is pulling apart. The back doors are missing. The coin door is pull from the hinges. I always seemed to be drawn to games with coon shit in the bottom of them. That is the worst of it. The marquee and bezel appear to be in good shape. The CPO looks like it might clean up. The GO-7 looks complete. All of the boards are there.

I would put up pictures, but I can not upload them. Is this thing worth restoring or a candidate for a part-out? If I did decide to keep it, it would have to go into storage until I got around to fixing it.

for a measly $50 how can it not a be a worthwhile pick up?

i hate to seem games parted out but in that regards, at least the components could benefit you or another KLOVer

see if it works/can be made to work and then decide. the cab is real wood and they used shitty nails to put it together. so you can probably put it back together and brace it with some glue and L iron. The back door is going to a pain to remake.

As for parting it out, if its not a keeper game for you, then probably. First check for power and see if the linear power supply is working. if its bad, maybe buy an arcadeshop power supply kit and then test it.

I forgot to mention that the linear power supply is missing.

well, you can either borrow one, spend $39 on the arcadeshop one, or hack in a switcher.

as for pics, open a photobucket account or some other free site. Then put the photos there. you can use the direct links to get the photos on to here with the picture icon.

Not a bad price but maybe some reconstruction work needed. I had a Gorf once, not really a keeper for me.

Find a nice empty cab and put the parts in it.

You saved a Gorf. :D

I recently came into possession of two boardsets to go along with the one in my GORF. If I can get one or two going, I will have an extra or at least two complete non-working sets.

Wood glue, clamps, Bondo***, and spare wood and hack in a shiny new switcher. I have a Zaxxon that was crumbling and some plywooh for a new back door, bottom front door (where the coin jugs are in Zaxxon) and a lot of Bondo and wood glue to fix particle board, and it looks almost as good as new.

Cabs are a magnet for varmint shit. I hate that.

Just consider this..... You have a Gorf in about the same shape my Pole Position was in. I got that working, and mostly back together.... If I can do it, so can you.

Hell, I'd love to have a $50 Gorf to work on. I love that game!

$50 for a Gorf? Nice grab, even in that shape!

I'd have jumped at it.

Hopefully, you can get it up and running. "Got you, Space Ka-Det!"

The Zaxxon that I have was wet at some point. Someone built a completely new base for it (not the guy I got it from). Its black instead of woodgrain but I didn't know that was wrong until somebody pointed it out. It looks totally fine that way. They did a good quality job on it. They saved a game that others might have junked. I probably would have.
