Lets just say you had an opportunity to put a cabinet in the breakroom of a workplace that has around 450 employees.Would you charge 50 cents or 25 cents and why?
Thanks

I'd go with 25c since I'd be annoyed if I had to pay more than expected for a classic game. Once you get a regular group of players you could then set up a tournament or something.

I'd pick 25 cents also, unless its a MAME cab, then I'd charge $1 so I could save up for those lawyer fees to come.

Depends on the game, if it was a classic (ms pacman, galaga, dig dug) I would definitely go with $.25 but if it's a newer game, Fighting game or really good two-four player game (xmen, nba jam, street fighters, neogeo, etc) I would go with at least $.50. I wouldn't lean toward $.50 because that may cause people to spend their $.50 towards something else in the breakroom, candy, soda, etc. I don't think they would worry too much about their $.25. Another question would be if there is any other vending machines there? Also to entice more people maybe setup some corny paper Highest Score ever record on the machine that they can fill out, especially if it's a classic with no high score save. Just a thought to entice more people to particapate. Office bragging rights?

I wouldn't charge anything. If I charged 25 cents I would need to buy a permit to operate it. I would think if a vending company has machines in there and I charged I would expect someone to come asking question and handing out fines.
I've had games in our break room a few times and it generated a lot of interest. Tournaments every day at lunch. If I had charged I don't think it would have generated much interest.

2 x 25c - it's not 1983 anymore. buck up.

all the classic games at flashbacks in seaside heights are 50c
and i have no problem paying it. still cheaper than most new titles.

Yeah, free play is the way to go here.

Want people not to play it, charge them money.

Who carries coins around that much anymore? Everyone uses plastic.

I agree in a break room there might be problems if a vending company has any machines in there and you would need a vendor's license if anyone ever asks. Put it on freeplay and watch people enjoy the game.

If you did get a license for a classic 25c or a newer game 50c.

I say free play or a nickel. I loved WOW everything was a nickel or free play. Unless you need to make money to recoup repairs.

so...we put a credit card reader...on the machines...BRILLIANT :p

And don't forget a bill acceptor.

If someone asked for .25 or .50, then you might as well have a change machine sitting right next to it and I doubt that would be allowed.

What about the change they get from the vending machines?

Well in my breakroom at work, everything in the vending machines is .80, .90, or .95 cents, so there's not enough to play a game after buying.

I dunno, try charging and see how it goes then, can't hurt.

The people who are most likely going to play it are going to be the folks who used to play them BITD. I personally get pissed when I see a game costs .50 to play, bc I was one of those people who played the games eons ago. The only game I ever saw at that time that was .50 was Dragon's Lair.

Keep it at .25.

Here's another suggestion. Get a locking donation collection box and put it up next to the machine. Put up a "suggested" 25 cents per play, but put the game on free play. Honest people will throw in some bux just out of appreciation of having the game there. It'll make up for the mooches that just take the freebie and leave.

I personally like this suggestion, and would be more likely to play/pay based off of your kind approach. As mentioned, the vendor license would be the thing I would be scared of mostly if you "charged"
