I kind of like the cpo and the buttons, not digging the "Goldmember" styling around the monitor though...

Correct that is Ed Logg. Story I read is that is the 50,000th Asteroids machine made, it was given to him as recognition of it's success, supposedly he has it still, I would be interested in the cpo and button combo. Looks nice IMO.

I think this was one of the games still left in the original Atari headquarters when Midway West was shut down in 2003, and it was sold to "the highest bidder" (atariscott may know more...)

See pics #2 and 3 on this page:

Looks like the one. Maybe Ed doesn't own it?

I really like that CPO and button combo, going to see if I can get one made for me, I think it would look great on a standard Asteroids cab :)

Ed does not own it. It was in the pile of games that were sold when Midway closed the Atari building in Milpitas. I offered big money for it, but they turned me down and sent it to Chicago. It's currently in the Cafeteria at whatever Midway is called now.

Ed owns a standard Asteroids machine, which belonged to his wife. She had it, before she met him. I fixed it for him last year.

Thanks for the info Scott :)

I'm working on getting a repro of that overlay, not quite there yet but...

What was wrong with it?

He can't fix his own game he designed?

Ha I actually thought that too, but maybe it was a monitor failure or something that he just wasn't familiar with. I'm not familiar with how their design process would work, but maybe he wasn't the "engineer" that built the circuit board? Cool pics of the gold Asteroids. In a way it would really be fitting for him to own it, but cool that he still has one.

That "Gold" monitor shroud looks like shit. It's not even centered and it's "wavy".

If your going to parade that thing around at least take 30 seconds to make it look half way descent.

Reminds me of a 60-1/mame project. It's only missing a set of "wings".

Probably because the machine was in the employee game room. It was on 24/7 for 15+ years. The monitor was in and out of the cabinet, dozens of times. That picture is about 10-12 years old. When I tried to buy it in 2002, the monitor bezel was missing.
