Just got back from picking up a working Spy Hunter off of craigslist in Huntington Beach, Ca...

The game works fine, however I cannot hear the Peter Gun Music... I can hear the game play just fine though...

Here are some pics..

Can't beat $50.00 for a cool working game...

Chris

nice! Music is played from the cheap squeak board, it's totally seperate. My first spy hunter i had, the music was the ONLY thing that worked on it lol

just in case you do not know there are two volume pots in a spy hunter. One is the game sound effects and the other is the peter gunn theme music. 1st make sure the pot is turned up before assuming you have another issue. It's pretty common that people miss this. Also keep in mind that the music is there at the start of the game and typically doesn't last long before it stops. I believe it should come back when you enter a weapons van but a lot of the time it's not there. If it's not this then yeah you need to check out the cheap squeak board.

Maybe I spoke too soon... I went out and tried adjusting the other Pot and began a game (First full game since I bought it. Tried it out quickly at the guys house), got to the first weapons truck, the button lit up, I hit the button and the screen turned into blocks and now it won't even reset.... Power Cycled and still have garbage on the screen...

Any ideas?

I guess... Just went out and reset all of the connectors....Still no luck.. I did find what looks like a cap or a battery (B101) that is falling off....

Is this required to operate?

Thanks,

Chris

Could be the board but in my experience with spy hunters I would say it's more likely a power issue. Check the voltages at the linear PS board. This may need a rebuild. And I always suggest if you plan on keeping a SH that you replace the two large caps on the power brick. Just in general MCR games are know to have interconnect cables go bad over time.

I will do that... Do you think I should try and replace the current power supply with a linear power supply or just replace the two big caps on the current power supply?

Thanks,

Chris

Spy hunter has both a power supply brick and a linear power supply board. I think what you are asking is if you should replace the linear PS board with a switcher like one of the ones arcade shop sells. If that's what you're asking, my answer is no. Spy hunter is a bit of a noisy game to begin with. In this case the switcher will only add more noise. The better move is to rebuild the original Linear PS board if necessary. Sure the switcher is the easy fix but like I said it will likely cause more hum in the speakers that you probably do not want.

Understood..

I will start by replacing both of the large caps on the power supply and see what happens..

Thanks for your help....

In my case, that's because I suck and usually get killed right away. Great game though. To bad it weights 500,000 lbs. Hope you get it going again.

This is a fairly complex game and is not the easiest game to keep working.

It can be very frustrating to get 100%.

I was just about to post the link to the CL ad. Nice score! Glad a KLOVer got it.

How's your Elevator Action cabaret coming? Working yet?
