Hey guys,
I wanted to make an multi jamma machine using the 6 in 1 switcher with NBA Jam, NBA Jam TE and the Blitz/Showtime combo board. Now I know Blitz and showtime used a 49way joystiq. I have really no familiarity with 49 way joystiqs and was wondering if they would work on an older NBA Jam board or not. Also besides the fact the 6 in 1 swichers do not support -5v without some modifications and the need to do some rewiring to get all the harness's to work together, does anyone foresee any other issues with doing this? I assume the Blitz/showtime board is standard jamma.

about the 49-ways with NBA Jam: simple answer is no. the game has to be able to "understand" the little optical interface board for the joystick. :) the good news however is you can run NFL Blitz or NBA Showtime with regular 8-way joysticks, the main downfall however is you lose a degree of diagonal control in doing this.

about the 6-in-1 switcher -5V mod: it's a safe mod, permitting you don't cross any wires or solder things together in the wrong places. I've done it myself and didn't blow anything up, sooooooooo.

Zenomorp used to have an extensive video on how to perform said mod, but his youtube account got deleted last year and lost all his videos. there's others where he talks about 6-in-1s but not in-depth. if you want any help with doing this though I can snap some pictures of my board for you. I didn't like the kind of wire I used on mine, I'm thinking if I used the super thin kynar wire I could be able to make loops to go around the pins, make it look much neater.

Do you think it would be eaiser to rewire the whole cabinet with a standard jamma rig then? Would anything esle special have to be done? I assuming there has to be harness's used for NBA Jam for the extra 3 and 4 player. Were these seperate or.... Yeah i have done the -5v mod for a multi MK machine I made.

the player 3 and 4 harnesses are actually like uber kick harnesses, lol. the only difference between them and the MK2-4 kick harnesses is that they have extra wiring for the 4 joystick inputs and the start button for each player, the actual MK buttons and NBA Jam buttons are the same.

now you know how Blitz/Showtime have like a similar harness that plugs into that other small board that the 49-way joysticks connect to? I'm not sure if those have the same pinout or not. so..... :/

you won't have to change anything with the JAMMA wiring I don't think, that's all standard stuff, the only difference is that the Blitz/Showtime (either Seattle or Vegas) just have wiring harnesses for all 4 players that go to the interface board. and I honestly don't even know how the buttons tie into all of this.

I just know that I ran my Blitz 2000 board in 8-way/standard res mode in another cab just to have the white screen for white balancing the monitor and the regular JAMMA wiring all worked. I haven't mucked with one of these in awhile, so I don't know.
