I know these have a low failure rate but i had a bad experience with my first. i have about 5 of these from a box of 4600 parts i purchased. I want to test them so i can know which ones are good for future use. I know i cant determine them completely working on a bench test but i believe i can at least determine some non working ones so i dont have to connect them all to a chassis and lose a hot with each non working one. Any body know how to check them with a multi meter

A multimeter doesn't really have the necessary circuitry to test these reliably. You could check the windings for opens, and you can check for shorts from one winding to the others, but that is about all you can do.

I believe the 4600 manual's circuitry diagram should be able to allow you to identify the winding paths to test.
