I just got another 45 record off Ebay with the standard small spindle hole and it won't play in my Jukebox. Has anyone ever tried to drill out a larger hole for jukeboxes? What size drill bit did you use? Were you able to do it without a drill press? Thanks.

Are you sure it's not a 33-1/3 "Little LP" made for jukeboxes equipped with a speed controller?

If it's an actual 45 and it has a small hole, then the record was probably intended for shipment to the UK. Over there 45's have small holes. They make a "dinker" punch to repunch the hole to normal 45 size.

Yea, it's 45RPM. Only one's I had problems with are metal bands. I'll look for a "dinker" punch. Thanks!

Hello,

The size of the hole in the record is 1.5 inches or 38mm for one offs they can be drilled with a hole saw, but you are better getting a professional rotary dinker rathe than the press/punch type dinker which can crack records.

Here is a link a bit pricey but a good idea (the hole should not drift).

Thanks for the link, I've been looking for one of these for a long time.
Kinda pricey though.

I've tried using a standard hole saw and don't recommend it.
The teeth tend to be staggered (in and out) and they will make your hole just slightly larger than it should be. Record will shift around on the spindle and sound drunk.

We took a hole saw to my machinist buddy and he trimmed down the outer edge of the teeth so now it cuts at the proper size. All I have to do is clean up the hole with sand paper and it looks very clean and dare I say almost professional.

Still you have to be very careful to center everything exactly, I use a jig I made with the router to hold record and a pre-drilled center hole. Also do not push too hard because if the saw binds and spins your record it's get scuffed up or worse, crack.

I am currently working on a turntable mod that will allow me to accept both size spindle holes. Will post a photo in the 'modify juke's' thread soon.
