I'm trying to compile a list of games that are compatible with the 4 player Konami cabs. Specifically, I'm wondering about games that aren't the typical ones associated with these cabs. For example, I have read Wrestle Fest is compatible, but requires some modding. I've also read NBA Jam and blitz are possible, as well as Run and Gun....

Here is the list of games I've read are compatible so far:

TMNT
X-Men
Simpsons
Main Event
Bucky O'Hare
Cowboys of Moo Mesa
Sunset Riders

I met a guy who has a Gi-joe project cab for sale. The side art has minor scratches but it is there(I thought about picking it up later).

Anyway back to what I know works in these(as to help):
Captain America and the Avengers
Growl
Crime Fighters
Vendetta
Violent Storm(3 player but will work in the cab)
Punk Shot
TMNT: Turtles in Time

Now I didn't list any 2P games. All the Konami 4P cabs are Jamma so anything that uses that standard pinout will work with some monkeying. The difference is that some are set for stereo sound and don't use the mono from the Jamma connector.

Any Jamma game should be compatible with that cabinet. Your only issue would be compatible controls like extra buttons. If you don't want to do any wiring/drilling, it's going to limit your selection somewhat.

Most games need at least a start button, which I don't think the Konami games use.

I tried Battletoads in my Captain America and the game came on but could not play it. I did not try to monkey around with the controls though.

Lots of 4-p games are plug n' play on a Konami cab.

Here are the ones I've personally used on my old machine:

Crime Fighters
Vendetta
TMNT
Captain America and the Avengers
Punk Shot
Desert Assault

Lots more, but those are the ones I've used -- they have the exact same connectors as the Konami cab. I still have a Punk Shot PCB if you want one.

You can play any horizontal standard monitor pcb in a Konami four player cab, even if it's only a two player pcb. However, only player 1 and 2 will work -- that is by default. Players 3 and 4 are for the connectors going from the pcb to the cabinet (this can be switched, also, to make the player 3 spot into the player 1 spot, etc).

It also has to do if your cab has two or three action buttons: Sunset Riders -- two buttons. X-men -- three buttons. (adding a third button is not difficult at all -- if you don't mind drilling into your control panel).

I play all kinds of Capcom, Irem, Sega, Taito pcbs in my Konami four player cab. All you have to do is make an adaptor for the 3rd and 4th players to play in your Konami cab. This is not as difficult as it sounds. You just have to cross some wires or punch some wires into a terminal connector. Konami is wired for the 3rd and 4th players as below:

-----

CN3 ( PL-3 ) CN4 ( PL4 )
1 COIN 1
2 ---- 2
3 LEFT 3
4 RIGHT 4
5 UP 5
6 DOWN 6
7 ATTACK 7
8 JUMP 8
9 MUTANT POWER 9
10 Start 10
11 ---- 11
12 ---- 12
13 ---- 13
14 ---- 14
15 GND 15

Taito is wired like this:

PLAYER 3 WIRING
|----|-----------------|
| 1 | COIN 3 |
| 2 | 3P START |
| 3 | 3P LEFT |
| 4 | 3P RIGHT |
| 5 | 3P UP |
| 6 | 3P DOWN |
| 7 | 3P ATTACK |
| 8 | 3P JUMP |
| 9 | |
| 10 | |
| 11 | |
| 12 | COIN METER 3 |
| 13 | LOCK OUT 3 |
| 14 | GND |
| 15 | GND |
|----|-----------------|

You would just get the third and 4th player harnesses and cross the wires so that the actions from the Taito game match the actions to the Konami cab. You could do this if you had a Sega cab.

It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it and I can walk you through it further if you'd like.

Good luck.

What would you do if there were a game that had a start button? Is it as simple as running one additional wire to one additional button? How does this effect a cab that is supporting a traditional konami game with a game requiring a start button?

Are you saying the cabinet has a start button already? Or are you saying that you need to install one in your Konami cab? Again, if your cabinet does not already have a start button, you would have to drill a hole for each player (inch and an eighth), put a button with a microswitch in it, jump the ground from another button to the microswitch, then run the wire from your JAMMA harness, (pin 17/U) and connect it to the microswitch.

If your cab is a conversion, then check your harness to see if there is a wire already at 17/U (lots of times there are). If there is not, you will have to insert a wire with the JAMMA pin into the harness and there you go. (Bob Roberts sells everything you need for this job). Or, if you have an used JAMMA harness around, take a tiny flat bladed screwdriver and pop out the pins and wires and insert them into your JAMMA harness in the Komani cab.

Thanks for the info. I've got a 4 player xmen cab. I'd like to put some of the traditional konami games (tmnt, simpsons, xmen) in it along with games like NBA Jam and Wrestle Fest.

What you're suggesting doesn't sound very hard. Do I drill out the holes for the start button with a spade?

I just read in another thread that you can somehow take a regular action button and somehow make it also function as the start button as long as the start button isn't needed to play the game. How would i do this for my 4 players?

When I drilled my buttons I used a hole saw for 1 1/8. I used a bi-metal one and no problems drilling into my Konami control panel. I actually put two sets of 4 holes for a total of 8 holes, one for coin and one for start for each player (This is only for people who don't mind extra buttons on their control panel). I bypassed the coin mechs and set them on top with the start button below it for each player. I tried to upload a photo but it wouldn't let me.

You can do that with any button, you just have to run a microswitch three-way splitter. I got mine from Twistedquarter. Here is the link:

Thanks Woofdrew!!

I'm sure this is a very noob question, so please forgive me. On my harness 17u is free. This corresponds to 1 & 2 player start. Since I'm doing a 4 player cab, how do I connect the start button for players 3 and 4?

The start button on your Konami harness is at position 10. However, not all Konami games use the start button. Sometimes they just use hit/attack at position 7. Below is the pinout for 3 and 4 players for X-men, notice how position 10 is blank. But 10 is actually the start button for other Konami games. Like the Jamma harness inside your cab, you will have to insert a wire at the position 10 spot.
