Hi all,

Well it has been a long road but nearing the end...close enough to post some pictures.

A reproduction 4-player Eliminator machine:

Original control panels. Waiting for the bezel to be reproduced.

This project was underway before Atari Scott posted this thread about reproducing the overlays. He just happened to have impeccable timing :)

are the coin doors from particle board style frogger cab?
those are easy enough to find.
that is a beautiful game for sure. i don't think there will be too many folks upset over this.
the warlords ckt cab repro is cool, but im thinkin it would water down value of original?

Are you in possession of some plans for these or something? That is absolutely one of my holy grails.

That's just cruel.

Like giving a homeless person key to a house but not providing the address...

Ok, ok, enough with the torture :)

I suspect everyone's most interested in the "address", as you put it.

So here it is:

http://www.enteract.com/~jenison/mars/eliminator_repro/files

All the plans needed to build a reproduction 4-player Eliminator.

Includes:
- A complete and accurate part list
- 3D models (Google Sketchup) for both the laminate version (most accurate to the original cabinet in terms of wall thickness) and a 3/4" version for those that want to go the melamine route (I've never built this version of the model, so caveat emptor)
- Build notes on how to construct the cabinet (at least this is how I did it; other cabinet builders may find optimizations)

I also have:
- templates for building the cabinet
- copies of all wiring harnesses for reproduction
- custom metal kits available for $225 + S&H

I wanted to do this project "Open Hardware"; you can build one with the documents provided given the means, skills, time, and resources. For those of you that don't, I have one remaining cabinet still available for sale.

Merry Christmas!

Impressive.

So what does one do about purchasing the metal kit, email you? Does anyone produce the overlays or are those done, dead, and sold out? Any discussion with Dok or anyone else about reproducing the harnesses?

And what about the boardset?

If this is covered in the docs I'm sorry and will just read them later. Am at a airport kiosk in Bahrain. :-(

I have an original cabinet that is falling to peices =-( Scott Evens said he would be able to restore it with the repro CPO's. Looking forward to that!

Dayum that is a lot of parts to acquire. Nonetheless I still want to make one.

I have a ton of questions on this build, but will wait until I can get home and sit down to review the sketchup models as I'd guess those contain more info that could fill in some of the blanks.

Impressive.

And what about the boardset?

You can use the boards from any of the Sega vector games by replacing the EPROMS and/or security chip.

The sound board is another issue. The same one was used in Eliminator and Zektor. Both are in short supply.

There is also some extra board for all of the extra controls. I think I have only seen one in an AtariScott forsale post.

COOL!

Are you going to repro the canopy? And did you have an original 4-player board or did you find a way to modify a 2-player?

I'm not going to repro the canopy because I don't have access to an original canopy. I know of someone who does, but they haven't responded further to detailed requests.

An "original 4-player board" is just a 2-player boardset with different roms and security chip. But you need the I/O board in order to handle the additional inputs.

Impressive.

So what does one do about purchasing the metal kit, email you?

Yes, I have a limited run of metal kits available. If I run out, maybe Takeman will want to run some more.

Does anyone produce the overlays or are those done, dead, and sold out?

You'd have to check with Atari Scott (Scott Evans) but I would think now that cabinet plans are available it might be worthwhile to make a run of the control panel overlays.

Any discussion with Dok or anyone else about reproducing the harnesses?

Not yet. As I mentioned, I do have copies of all the harnesses (the individual coin door harnesses, control panel harnesses, ground wiring harnesses, speaker wiring harnesses, main harness) as templates if he wants to take on producing these.

And what about the boardset?

You'll have to provide your own...maybe Vectorlabs can step in and provide something for those who'll need the expanded I/O board. If soundboards are becoming scarce, I believe he's working on a multisound card as well.

Got details of what all is in the kit? I'll probably take a set if we hear anything positive regarding CPO sets from Scott. The rest should be manageable.
