So I am building a 4 player cab to hold these 4 games. I plan to get a 6 to 1 switcher to mount on the floor and wire it all up myself.

I do feel a little overwelmed but If i take it 1 step at a time, I think I will be OK!

I bought a 4 player control panel fully populated from Modessitt (steve in Austin tx) (whom has been giving me input along the way). It originally had 6 buttons for the 2 middle players and only 2 buttons for the outer players. I made it 3 buttons for all 4 players (I think thats the max buttons for the these 4 games). I bondo'd up the holes and it came out perfect. I used a 80 grit flapper disk on my grinder to knock off the old glue, paint. It was kinda harsh, but I then block sanded the entire thing, and she is looking good!

I'm having a graphic design place making me a custom control panel display with the 4 games on it. Should get "preview" in a few days.

I'm not sure how this site is with CUSTOM cabs and such (as most of the stuff I see here is full restorations) But this is being build for my home, so I thought I could be a little creative!!

What I have so far.....

cp looks nice, you going to fill in 4 of the start buttons also? 8 is a lot of players ;0)

It looks like you have a TMNT cab. All of the konami games: sunset riders, xmen, tmnt do not use start buttons but NBA Jam does. Keep that in mind while building your control panel. Simpsons would be a good board to add to your cab too!

GOOD CALL on simpsons!

I am going to have a button next to the 1, 2,3,4 for the FREE PLAY, just hit that, and your back in play!!

oh 6 in 1 switcher you'll need an extension harness unless there's enough room for a CPS2 boardset.

there are so many games i find at least 5-10 that i never heard of every day lol.

I would reinforce those buttons that you filled in. You're going to have some bondo disks at the bottom of your cabinet the first time anything hits the cp.

I should have taken pics, but I actually put 3 sheet rock screws into the sides of each hole. Then i used a grinder and made them all flush with the the top of the wood. Then i put tape across the bottom of the cp and packed all the holes with bondo. I was hoping this would give the bondo something to hold onto so that they just wouldn't slide out. Kinda like re-barb in concrete.

I'm curious as to what color to paint this cab. I know the easiest would be to just keep it black. If i wanted to repaint this cab, would I have to strip ALL the paint off, and bring it back down to wood? If so, recomendations on the best proven methods?

ALSO, should I paint the CP BEFORE i put the sticker on it? Or just apply the sticker overlay directly to the smooth wood??

THANKS!

He shouldn't. Besides, I told him to put a lexan or plexi cover on it when it's finished - to protect the art...

still a possibility that there would be bondo disc's that fall out, tho with those screws maybe not. i've never tried that method, how come no one uses tiger hair here? fiberglass bonds to everything :D

I didn't even think about using kitty hair or fiberglass resin. I heard someone say bondo, so I grabbed a can, mixed it up, and filled some holes!!

So what step do i take to prep the rest of the cab for paint??

And do I paint the Control panel before the sticker goes down?

i would paint the panel first before applying art, for the rest of the cab, a good sanding just to rough up the surface a lil before paint should be fine.

You will have to paint the cp, stickers don't stick well to bare wood. Also, give AMPLE time for the cp to fully dry and for the paint to outgas. If you rush it, you will have adhesion problems later on.

I've bondo'd lots of control panels and never had any fall out. What the hell are you doing on your panels?

heh, as i said i've never used bondo to fill a cp. but i do have a degree in autobody repair and know from experience in that field that bondo never holds up well when filling holes larger than a pencil eraser.

I'm also extremely gentile with my machines, but occasionally when working under a CP i've had it slam down shut on me which will definitely cause bondo to crack and fall.

what the hell are you doing on your panels? :D (this is not a serious question just kidding around).

Hey clover what 6 to 1 switcher were you using if you don't mind me asking. I was plAnning on doing the same. I currently have xmen simspons and tmnt

Thanks

Which ever one is on Ebay, LOL. I just have TMNT and NBA jam TE right now. looking for xmen, sunset riders, simpsons etc...

GOT MY CP proof back!!! I kinda want him to stick simpsons in this somewhere, but I think I may just get a custom MARQUEE made with the other games in it...

I know i went with NON arcade images on TMNT and NBA jam, but I thought the images looked best.

PS.. thats a picture of my mini truck in the upper corners, I had someone Cartoon it for me, its a rendering of the finished product. And yes, I build a trailer to match, LOL.
