So, I really want a 3DS. Only issue is, the large price tag.

I just sold my DSi XL (Thanks SpiffWilkie) in hopes of jump starting my funds for it.

But, now I'm torn. I really want one, but I don't think I will have enough to get one at launch.

I'm stuck between keep trying to save (ie finding things to sell) and just saying f-it and spending the money I have saved up so far on sprucing up my arcade games, and random stuff that will make me happy. And I suck at saving money, so it generally will get smaller before it gets bigger.

So... anyone have input?

im buying one on launch, I really wanna see this 3d. I also think it has a lot more features than any other handheld to warrant the price. plus there talking about movies on this thing so its pretty much gonna be the only portable im gonna need it seems. I am also probably not buying a psp2 (im sure its gonna be around 300, maybe 350..) (edit: aparently there was a leaked price of 300., not confirmed)

I would like to get a 3DS, since I'm still using my DS phat, but since none of the release titles for the 3DS really interest me and the price of the console is a bit steep, I'm going to wait and see. I don't see any point getting it until there are decent games for it.

I am sure there will be a 2nd generation 3DS that will improve the 3D effect somewhere down the line.

There are stores here that are doing demos of the 3DS so you can check out the 3D effect. Perhaps there are places in the US where they are previewing the console?

Hi Mindl3ss. I feel your pain lol. I was in the same boat. I was really into video games from the atari 2600 up till the ps2 then ended selling my whole collection. (greed + stupidity) I wasn't remotely interested in current gen untill one fateful day when i stumbled across the trailer for new super mario bros. wii.

I damn near shit my pants right then and there when i saw they were making a new 2-d side-scrolling mario game. I thought those days were long gone. ( mario had lost me at mario 64. I hated the free roaming puzzle stuff) Long story short i bought a wii just for that game and rediscovered how much I love video games. I even got into free roaming mario with mario galaxy which is one of the very best games i have ever played. When i heard about the 3 ds i was really pumped to find out more about it.

I didnt really have the money for it but i scraped it together after i took a long hard look at the facts. The 3d deal is all kinds of awesome, It plays all the ds games which i have never played any of, It's nintendo who has a pretty damn good track record with there systems and first party games and it is the future of nintendo hand helds.

Sure they'll pump out some more ds games for a while but i really think people are going to go apeshit when they see this thing in person and well end up with another sell out like the wii was. I also heard there were only going to be 2 million in the U.S. launch window.

If i were you i would think about not just how badly i want one cause its new and cool (which it is) but weather or not its something you really want, will use often and truly enjoy. If it is then you need to ask yourself if your ok with possibly having to wait for months on end if not a year to find one other than double price on ebay.

That's what did it for me. I know it's something i will have a great amount of fun with and not just play once in a blue moon. It's also nice to have a newly released system because you have all those great games to look forward two in the next five years or so. You might want to try to make a decision quickly though. I was talking to the guy that manages gamestop here and he was telling me about how lI'mited the 3 ds will be and that as far as He knows they will only get preorder ones in. That could be a load of crap but it makes sense given the low production numbers.

I cant wait to be playing some mario kart in 3d. Paper mario looks good two and i heard Shigeru Miyamoto is working on a new super mario game for the 3ds. After what he did with mario galaxy 1&2 I cant wait to see were he go's with it. That guy is the god of video games as far as I'm concerned. I hope you make the right decision for yourself.

Ditto. I don't see any games that I would want for it yet, plus I know they're going to come out with new models and maybe a 2nd generation if I wait long enough.

I'm going to wait and see what it looks like in person before I decide to buy and then I'll probably until they release a limited edition so I can buy that. :D

I suggest you wait and see what happens. It'll always be there, so why not save in the mean time?

have you guys seen the 3d? It seems everyone is saying "they'll make another one with a better 3d".. wtf is wrong with the first one, its not even out???

Technology's always moving... at least that's what I've been told.

Exactly

With technology, I've always had the feeling of if you are going to wait, you may as well wait forever.

There will always be something newer, and the price will always go down.

And, rlemmon, it is something I really want, and it is something I think is very cool. I am interested in a few of the lauch titles (if I can only get one, I'm torn between SFIV and DOA... 2D fighter Vs 3D... on a 3D system, lol)

I've got some news though... I have an offer on the car I'm selling for my parents, and if it does indeed sell for that offer, I will have the money, no problem. My mom put my wife and I in charge of the sale and said if we sell it for at least a certain ammount, anything above is ours.

I waited when the DS first came out. I didn't care until Mario Kart came out. Once it did, I imported a black DS phat (since we didn't have a black on here in the States). I quickly regretted not having bought one sooner. Since then I've piled up over 80 games, all of which are good, with a few exceptions.

Since then, I got the black DS Lite and a black DSi (which is technically my wife's). I rarely play any of them now and haven't bought a new game for them in some time, but that's mostly because I just don't have the time to play them anymore, not because I don't want to or think it's not any good anymore.

I don't know that it'll end up like the Wii, but I do have one on preorder. As for the Wii, everyone made fun of me for waiting 10 hours as first in line to get one. A year later, when no one else I knew had one yet, I was the one laughing :p

I mean its not like another console is gonna drop 3 months after release. and use a pre order like a lay away, if you can throw 5$ a week it adds up.

Also DOA isnt comig out till like may so you got some time to save

Well, I did read it was a launch title... maybe it's changed.

This sucks... We got the offer we wanted for the car through email... the guy gave me his number, BUT IT DOESN'T WORK...

+1 You and me seem to be the only ones still showing love for Sony around here.

I have plenty of love for sony. I still buy PSP games regularly, even though the only PSP I have is locked up in a store display. I removed it recently to play games on it, but I'm too paranoid about getting a scratch on the screen... because it's not a "normal" PSP... in other words... it has a special sticker on it, lol.

I guess I should add to it, that no matter how much love I have for sony, I'm a sucker for Nintendo...

theres a big article on it in the new game informer.. has a lot of publishers lining up for it

For PSP or 3DS? I hope they both do really well nintendo for the casual gamer and Sony for the Hardcore.

I should go renew my Game Informer great mag.

they both have an article, ds has an article 8 pages, mostly 3 about the system and the rest on games

The psp has an article 4 pages but they talk more about the system and list a big list of developers already on board. at least 50.

Also a hillarious ice t interview

Game informer is one of the greatest magazines, probably because shopping at gamestop is attached to it and it helps out, 15 for a year and then the "rewards card" I think its well worth it
