(update: Please note I am not the one that processes username changes. The moderators do, and typically Tombo.)
Before requesting a username change, you MUST CONFIRM that you can log out and log back in on the main site, www.arcade-museum.com, with your email address and password. While logged in, please click on account and confirm that your username shows. If it does not, you probably have multiple accounts that need to be merged. Please update any outdated email addresses, as without same a username change may result in you being locked out of your account.
Occasionally users feel a need or strong desire to change their usernames.
Some have asked us to do it for them and we generally will make the change for them (though it often takes a while).
A decent number of other users have simply stopped using an old account and created a new one. It is recommended NOT to do this whenever possible, especially as your forum profile gets further tied to other non-forum functionality (like VAPS, etc. etc.). Credit, access, and priority is sometimes given based on how long a user has been a member. Additionally, if we believe a member is using more than one account, a ban may result.
We will process username changes by request, provided that a user doesn't ask for a change too often (please don't ask more than about once a year...it's a manual process).
All name changes are public unless there is an overwhelming privacy issue with the original username (real name used and there is a concern about same).
The bottom line is that we want to officially state that we will in general process non-controversial username requests, especially when a user is willing to be patient.
If you do wish a username changed, do two things
(1). Post in the username thread asking that you would like a name change:
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=194408
Please include the new username unless you want to keep it private until the change is made. If you wish to keep the username private until the change is made, post an additional post in the "Member Concerns, Grievances & Requests" section and include the username you wish to change to. Posts in that section are private between the poster and management.
Please be clear as to whether you want your new username to be in lower case, or upper case, or a mix.
We may not approve a change request if your new choice is controversial or too similar to another existing username.
Character Limit: 15 characters I think but it might be as short as 12 (Greg to confirm later).
Note: The way username changes are being handles has changed as of August 25, 2012. Previously, an admin made the name changes after delays of weeks or months. A new utility has been written to allow the moderators to make these changes now.
