Just secured a 3 game deal this evening:
Paperboy, Outrun, and Badlands (2p Offroad ripoff)

They all 3 in shitty shape and all 3 have issues. They'll fit right in my gameroom. ;)

Oh, and they were dirt cheap.

More details and pics later this weekend.

Frizzle called, he said to tell you to enjoy your nice little girly haul. ;) Seriously though, I'd love a Paperboy and "dirt cheap" is always nice. Congrats! Be sure to update us with pics!

Ooohhhhh, I hope you haven't jinxed it... :(

Not until it's in your grubby mitts! You know the rules! :D

Good haul. I really enjoyed paperboy as a kid. It alwasy seemed like that damn car would pull out in front of me. Eith that, or the bees. :)

finally a post worthwhile.

Good luck man...Wonder how much you got the haul for??

Post pics when you can.

Badlands, btw, seems like a really fun game but I honestly cant recall ever playing it.

The price is $200.

Like I said, they all look like crap. The paperboy lit up the pcb LED, but the screen was only showing a white screen. It was supposed to be working, but with a dead monitor. I'd prefer the monitor be working anyways. ;)There were no sounds at all. The sides looked like crap and painted over white, but the control panel and controls were very nice.

The crappiest part of this is I just parted out a championship sprint...

The outrun cabinet looks crappy, but its all there. The game plays 100%, but the monitor was blank. I'm hoping that like the paperboy, the brightness was turned down to zero. ;) Either way, I have a spare chassis for it.

The badlands was a surprise. He said he had a badlands, but didn't know what it was. There is a KLOV entry for the racing game, and a really old B&W game. The fact he also had a space zap had me thinking the latter. It did not boot at all. The monitor worked though. As usual "it worked a few months ago...". It appears to be a conversion, though I don't know what from quite yet.

So there you have it. I really didn't want more project games, but I just couldn't walk away. You all know how it is.

All I can say is... What, no props, or even a mention for throwing this into your lap? :) I should at least get a good deal on the Paperboy PCB set (for my 720), assuming it works. Or dibs on the whole Paperboy even?

Great news on the Outrun and Badlands. I know you'd been hoping for a driving game for a while.

Also, I thought you'd sold the Champ Sprint med res chassis already?

If it was the Konami version, it would be staying in their garage. :)

And yes, Wade gave me the hookup on this one folks. I think the Paperboy will be taking up residence in my gameroom at least for a little while. You said you didn't want a project, and this one without a doubt qualified as a project. Maybe when you finish up a few projects I'll let you have it to restore. Side art and a cleaning should make it pretty nice. Of course, that assumes I can get it working easily. Ronnie said he seems to recall something popping and stinking when it died.

Unfortunately, I already sold everything of interest except for the dead boards. Damnit!! I also snapped the neck off the tube and trashed it the other day since I had no use for it. I really wish I hadn't done that, as this tube has bad hi-score table burn. DOUBLE DAMNIT!!!!

Pics Pics Pics! I gotta see this paperboy, I might have to pry it out of your hands. :) I'm down to one project game, so I could theoretically put another in the queue. Plus, I've been cleaning my garage so I have gobs of space in there. :)

Pics of the Badlands! I'm curious what they put it in. I've played it in MAME a bit.

You must be pumped. I'm pumped, and living through your experience. :) I know you'd been wanting some drivers to round out your gameroom. Sounds like you'll be able to choose which one to keep, or even keep them both!!

Glad it's working out to be something. Those were the best games of all he had, too. I didn't even want to try moving that Zombie Raid (heavy), or Space Zap (worthless).

No pics yet, sorry. I have to run out the door!

Anyways, we got them home with no issues. The 2 driving games were in a cellar environment, so they had some water on the very bottom, and stink a bit.

Badlands, no input yet. I pulled the monitor that appeared to work. I pull the jamma pcb and test it in another cab.

Outrun: "It worked last time..." my ass!!! The monitor had no HV. The badlands monitor was the same WG k7900 model, so I swapped them out. After dialing it in, I had a decent picture on the outrun, but it needs capped. First thing I noticed - no steering. Opened it up, and that damn plastic driveshaft gear was in about 20 pieces - hence the "worked last time my ass" comment. Anyone have one of those gears, or know where I can get one without bending over too far? ;)
I tried to manual activate the steering, but the pot did not register anything. Bad pot I assume??? Pedals, shifter, and start work perfectly fine.

Paperboy: Everything powered on when I first got it. Monitor was just a white screen. The CPU LED was lit up, but the video board was not. There is a replacement switcher in there to feed only the +5, which tested out to 5.07 Volts. Why would the video LED be off?
As I was peaking around at the power supply, I noticed the marquee light power cord was unplugged. I turned the game off and plugged it in. When I turned it back on, I saw a spark down at the base of the transformer, then everything died. When I turn on the switch now, there is absolutely zero life in the cab - even when I unplugged the marquee to the way it was. I checked every fuse and they 'looked' okay. Didn't get a chance to test them yet.

The current plan is to clean up the Outrun and get it 100% first. I need a gear and I assume a pot for the steering wheel. Pics will come later tonight.
