I have 2 operation wolf boards that seem to have the same problem, No red. Is this a common failure on Taito boards like these?
I have read that the custom RGB chip fails and could cause issues like this one.

Anyone have any pointers for me?

This might be a dumb question, but are you sure it's not your monitor?

I have an Operation Wolf cab myself, but I've honestly never heard of the custom chips failing. I'm sure that it's a thing, I'm just lucky I guess haha!

If you have a scope or logic probe, check the output of the RGB signals (and Sync if you want) on the edge connector. The RGB is handled by three PC040DA ICs on locations 79, 80 and 81, see them in the page before the last one in the schematics:

If the R is dead compared to the G and B, you may need a replacement custom. But, also check for trace damage from the custom to the edge connector for Red.

If you need a custom, I'd check with user Caius here as he has made them in the past, see link below:

Good luck!

Are there more than 1 version of these boards? Both of the ones I have have 1 large custom TC0070RGB Not 3 PC040DA

OK I am going to post this and please don't laugh. As I have never seen this happen I did not think to test it. BUT it looks like I have a bad video cable. Moved everything to another cab and it works. So I tested the wiring and sure enough red was open... Like I said never seen that before so lesson for me.

Hey if it makes you feel any better, on my Wolf cab, the grenade didn't work. I was convinced it was a bad button on the gun, and took it apart, cleaned it, etc. Was pulling my hair out. Turns out it was the pin inside the connector to the board. It had broken off and wasn't actually touching the pin on the board itself. Took me a week to find it...

Glad it was something easy!
