2N3716 and 2N3792 (as used on Amplifone defl. PCB's)

Thread resurrection; Help with mystery kit that was in my stuff

Deflection thread updated with all known alternatives and a few worth trying

Over time I have picked up random boxes of stuff and was trying to find out what this parts kit was for.

Found this thread when trying to figure out why these transistors would be bundled together.

Most of the components are marked for 5% tolerance

1x NTE5100E diode
5x Mica insulators
2x 2N3792 transistors
3x 2N3716 transistors
2x 330 ohm resistors
2x 2W 2ohm2 ceramic resistors
2x 15 ohm resistors
1x 3.9 ohm resistor
1x mps a56 PNP transistor
3x mps A06 NPN transistor
1x 2n3904 NPN transistor
2x 1n4750 diode
2x 1n4148 zener

Just wondering if this parts list looks familiar.

Someone with a vector should test the 2N3055 and MJ2955.

Sorry for the revival of an old thread but this is the most appropriate.

RE: G05-802

I recently replaced my 3716's and 3792's with 2N3055's and MJ2955's respectively. The monitor ran for about 4 mins and the Y MJ2955 failed (Q609) causing F600 to blow. I thought it may have been a dud so tried another one, it lasted about 5 seconds and failed and blew F600 again. I put the original 3792 back in and all is well.

Looking at the specs the MJ2955 should be just as capable but for some reason it just can't handle it.

This being said there is still a new MJ2955 on the X side that seems to be doing fine.

i'm not seeing how a 2n3055 and a 2n3716 (and their complement) are the same spec at all

2N3716 is higher voltage. 100V Vce vs 60V

Gain is about the same

The 2N3716 is a higher bandwidth transistor, which may or may not play much importance here. However, the safe area of operation curve shows that a 2N3716 is a more robust part for a given voltage/current

you should consider just getting a 2n3716 or the upgrade 2N5884

there is a guy selling 2n3716's in the forsale subforum for pretty cheap and lots of people including myself have the 2N5884.

I'll put in the originals back in since they didn't fix my issue anyway and just pick up the 5884/5886 combo if they're a tested replacement.
